That would be nice but the new version that works with the latest programs will no be available until at least January. I read this on the Toolfarm forums for Red Giant.
Thankfully…. I don’t rely on software upconversion.

May be a little silly if you ask me. FCP has never been backward compatible except thru XML exports.
The missing render files and re-rendering a lot made the decision for us alone to make the update. But as always, clone your system drive before updating.

Here’s a curious one for all of you.
Why is it that when you make a change to a timeline, export it and try to overwrite the old file, it will tell you that the file cannot be overwritten because the file is in use? The curious part is that if I have multiple locations where this file exists, it will write some of them but not all of them.
Let me give you an example… I am editing a series for the Outdoor Channel and the show open and close has not been approved yet. I have made minor changes due to misspellings. I have two shows in the process and needed a place holder for the moment. Both are using a temp open and close – both are the same files for each project. I could overwrite the files on one volume but not on the other.
There are no open versions (or active) of these files anywhere except on these volumes, of which, are not open in FCP. Hmmmm….. (scratching my head)
This has been plaguing me for the past three years. Finally, I just end up writing an alternative file, deleting the old version and renaming the new file to match the old.

Internal HDs are used ONLY for data storage and audio files. All media should be played from external HDs.
Uncompressed video takes a huge demand on HDs, therefore, you really need a RAID housing at least four drives in order to makes this work. You could try using ProRes422 and see if you can make that work.

Do these clips by any chance happen to be Uncompressed 8-bit?
If so, that’s your problem. Uncompressed takes some serious drive setup better than a G-RAID to perform properly. DVCPro can be edited and played off of a single firewire drive. The throughputs are very different.

Micosoft and Logitech make good 3 button mice that work on the Mac. I use a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 on my system, the other uses a Logitech Wireless Laser Mouse. But work equally fine.

I feel your pain…
Sorry for the Clinton paraphrase, but can really understand what you are going through. I read an article printed in the NY Times about BestBuy’s GeekSquad doing something similar to get customers to purchase new computers.
Let me tell you the real name(s) for JVC – Junk Video Corporation or Junior Video Corporation. These were coined by my TV Production professor in college. We had a JVC tube camera in our studio and it was a piece of junk compared to Sony. It was only used when ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Don’t get me wrong… I’m not into bashing anyone but there is a reason why some many people complain about JVC products.

Also… something to keep in mind. You need at least one gig of RAM per processor on your Mac Pro – for optimal performance. So if you have a Mac Pro Quad, you’ll need at least 4 gig (four 1 gig memory bars) of RAM. If you have an OctoCore, you’ll need at least 8 gig of RAM.
Trust me, it sounds like BS but it is true. My system running two gig ran, but did so very slowly as compared to the 8 gig that I am using now. Mine is a little overkill on my Mac Pro Quad but I use alot of apps while working.

We have a cheap ole Wal-Mart special, the Apex that’s about 7 years old and it reads my 7 mbit disks with no problem.
7 mbit is about the maximum you really should go.
