[Michael G] “Also the pics off the V1 are excellent and look much nicer than Z1 footage. “
This is because the V1 is a true progressive, true 24 p camcorder whereas the Z1 is an interpolated video frame in the Cineframe mode.
Otherwise… Good Job! HDV is very workable as long as you plan accordingly and log your footage correctly.
One question, was the HDV footage acquired via firewire into the Adrenalin?
[Michael G] “Timecode breaks were never ignored.”
This is where everyone goes wrong. This is a good lesson for videographers to pre-stripe your HDV tapes before shooting. Time codes will be consistent and logical.

Yes…
This is a function of FCP 6.0.2. I’m not sure if this is a bug BUT its rather annoying.
BTW, I’m running MacOS 10.4.11 still.

December 6, 2007 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Colorista Issue…..blowing out detail in highlightsHas anyone tried to use Magic Bullet Looks yet to see if this is happening here, too?
Only reason I ask is because it would be silly if its only an issue with Colorista. I would think that Looks would also have this issue. I’ll look into it on my end but I’d like to see if this is an issue with anyone else.

[Sycophant] “Support is somewhat limited (no native Avid support yet, and I’ve heard mixed reports about workflow in FCP). But the camera itself is fantastic. It has all the right features and a fantastic “
Well, I’m gonna jump in…
Just yesterday, our equipment sale rep stopped by with his XDCAM EX demo. We put it trought its paces. Different frame rates, 1080 vs 720, different lighting conditions, and most importantly tested all of this with FCP 6.02.
Let me just say… Panasonic look out! This will kill the HVX series without a doubt. FCP handled all of the footage wonderfully. Yeah, there will be some rendering when mixing XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX unless you record in the SP mode (25 mbit).
But I can say that this camera is an awesome offering from Sony. Now, if they could just come up with something like the P2 Gear or P2 Store for field use. This is the ONLY thing that is keeping us from purchasing these cameras and replacing our Sony Z1U’s.

[Chris Poisson] “Just this week I blew up an iStock SD photo jpeg clip to 720p with Compressor, it looked completely perfect. I wouldn’t make a single excuse for it, you can’t tell it was uprezed.”
I’ll agree that Compressor can do some pretty impressive work.

Really…
I’ve never seen that before and I’ve have FCP crash more than twice before. I just get the usual report to Apple and restart the program. But its never reset the program. Now…. I have seen FCP reset itself on occasions but never the like that Anders has shown.

[Craig Seeman] “While I don’t have the camera yet (it’s on order). I’ve tested other people’s clips. FCP 6.0.2 is compatible and with XDCAM Transfer plugin 2.1 I had no problem importing and using EX1 clips. FCP 6.0.2 includes the codec and easy setups for full 1920×1080 clips. Now I haven’t tried mixing it with 1440×1080 XDCAM clips. I’d imagine something would have to be rendered depending on the timeline settings. I’ll ask around since I know some of the people who had pre production versions and ordered it also have F350s.
“These are all questions that we have. To add to this, we (Schazam Productions) work in a specific market that time can mean getting the money shot. XDCAM EX doesn’t allow for this at the moment.
I still don’t understand why Sony didn’t come up with a solution like Panasonic’s P2 Store or the new P2 Portable Recorder.
Sony, if you’re listening…. You’re missing the boat again.
