It called DV50.
DV50 and DVCPro50 are the same. You might have to change the preset for the type of machine control that you have (firewire or 9-pin).

Using the compression that was spoke of will only fill half of your disc. I would suggest playing around with your bitrates but don’t go over 8 mbits. The higher the bitrate, the better the quality.

You’ve just encountered the HDV blues…
This is the issue with Long GOP and HDV. Being able to hit the same timecodes is spotty at best when using HDV and editing HDV. DV and all other video formats use what’s called I-Frames, meaning, that every single frame of video is a frame of video. In Long GOP, you have one I-Frame and somewhere between 7 to 14 frames of interpolated video. Great for one time playback but could cause troubles when recapturing an offline program, such as yours.
The problem I see here is that you captured everything to DV. Well, I’m sure sure that you know that HDV takes the same space as DV when it comes to file sizes, so offlining HDV is a moot point.

Yeah, it sometimes can look pretty poor using FCP 5.1.4… We are using FCP 6.0.2 and have noticed a better quality improvement.
The trick I found was to export your sequence as HD Quicktime and set DVDSP to SD DVD (letting DVDSP do the encoding) using the Encoding settings in the Preferences, Mode: One Pass, Bit Rate: 7.0 Mbps, Motion Estimation: Best. It seems better and faster than Compressor using Background Encoding.

Truth be known…. I do something like this most of the time except that we use XDCAM HD and I have to make XDCAM SD masters also for broadcast on BetaSP.

Wow… That’s a round about way to get a DVD.
The easiest and best way is to export your HD sequence to Compressor, set it to one of the DVD settings, not HD-DVD, and compress it. Take those files into DVDSP and burn your disc.

Always maximize your settings to match your FCP sequence as best as possible. If you have a 30 minute program or less, use a DVD compression setting of Best Quality 90 minutes.

All very true and very possible, but you’re having to handle the media at least twice. It sure is nice to just take a disc or tape out of the camera and label it rather than having to dump to an HD then over to a BluRay disc then import them into FCP.
Do you see my issue with this? Its not the medium but the workflow that you have to use that takes more time in the field. If Sony would have made an item like the P2 Store, there wouldn’t be any issue with this. It looks to me that Panasonic has the advantage on this end.

You just hit the nail on the head! I’ve started calling the EX, the Sony P2. Sony is jumping into the market of what do we do for archiving.

The only choice is to purchase a BluRay drive for you computer and dump to BluRay. Sounds good, right? Well, any of your other computer also need BluRay drives to read these discs. This could get pricey real quick. Maybe a very high end Sony laptop is the idea in the field…
The U1 drive isn’t able to write at the moment. SO…. that’s not an option. Sony means Soon, Only Not Yet.
Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not bashing the XDCAM EX. We’d love to replace our HDV Z1s for these BUT what would be our archive format? BluRay is the only option but who has time in the field to say “Wait, I have to dump my cards to BluRay”, after shooting for a max of two hours maybe. Do you see my point?
Yeah, I could just dump to hard drives but who has time for that also. Then you still have to get them into your edit station using the XDCAM Transfer Software so that FCP can use them.
This is the ONLY reason we haven’t purchased any of these cameras yet.
SO…. to answer your question, Rafael. Yes, they have to be transcoded before you can edit in FCP.
