Hmmm…
You said this is a new computer. Is it brand new or did you buy it from someone slightly used? I ask because I know there is a firmware update for the new Early 2008 Mac Pro system. Have you run the firmware upgrade yet?
Do that, and then do a clean reinstall of Leopard from the disks that came with your computer. After that, run all of the updates possible until you get no more. This will bring you up to 10.5.2 and Quicktime 7.4.5. Then you can install FCS2. Make sure that you run Software Update after installing it. There are updates for FCS2.
If you are still getting issues, I would contact your local Apple store if you have one or contact Apple using your support.

Well, since its new and you are just starting to install everything. Just put in your restore disks and restore the computer to its original configuration.
As a tip… After you reinstall Leopard, run all of the updates for it possible. You really need Leopard to be 10.5.2 before you install FCS2.
Next thing I need to ask… How much memory do you have and is it third party memory?

You have to set the deck to FAM mode thru the deck menus. Then you can use the deck as a drive unit.

That’s a loaded question. What type of video do you intended to do with this iMac? Do you use lots of graphics?
I would expect that Motion wouldn’t run very well, if at all. And your memory… Let’s just say, I would try anything with less than 2 gig. You won’t get very far under 2 gig.
Let see… what else… Oh yeah…
You’ll need some sort of media drive. The internal drive will not work for editing video. You can use a good quality fw800 drive but you can do ProRes422 with that and you can forget Uncompressed.
Personally speaking, if this is your business… Choke it up and get a proper Mac Pro system with no less than 4 gig of RAM. I will say that Apple memory is the most expensive, but you can replace it with memory from Crucial or Kenningston for less money.

What is the majority of your footage?
I would make my sequence settings based on that and go from there.

This has been a issue for a very long time with just about everyone here.
The only solution that we came with was to create a new sequence called “Slo Mo Sequence”, copy the clip into that one, make your speed changes and copy the clip back to it original location. Hopefully your length is still the same.
Otherwise you can do like most people do… Just move your clip to the end of the sequence, make your speed change there and drag back to where you need it.
Personally, I like having a copy of the clip in a new sequence so that I can keep track of all the slomo effects that I have done.

Did you upgrade this computer to Leopard or was it purchased new with Leopard on it?
What is version of Leopard and the software installed?
How much memory do you have and how is it installed?
