Curves/Color Correction Question
Posted by Rosa Jurjevics on May 7, 2008 at 2:28 amHey all,
I’m doing some color correction using FCP 6.0.2 and am looking for a Curves control like that in Photoshop but can’t seem to find it anywhere in the FCP filters/color correctors. Does it have one or am I out of luck?
Thanks,

Nope, no curves in FCP. There are in Color, if you really want them.
Otherwise, I’d concentrate on learning the 3-way Color Corrector, as that’s the most useful colour correction filter FCP has for general correction IMHO.
Is there a particular thing you’re trying to do? Or are you (sensibly) just looking for a comfortable analogue to a tool you’re familiar with?

May 7, 2008 at 2:41 pmNattress has a “Film Effects” package and that has a Curves Effect in it; however, I don’t find it as intuitive or friendly as the Curves in Photoshop/After Effects. This is because you have to use sliders and you can only see the curves graphed on an overlay in the Canvas.
You can download a demo here.

May 7, 2008 at 4:12 pmHi Ben,
Color corrector is great, I agree. I’m not super super good with it yet (but am getting there) and am not sure it will do what I need it to. I’m looking to lighten up half of a shot and leave the other half darker, as a Curves effect might do (sort of). I’ve played around a little with ‘limit effect’ to no avail and have also tried various gamma and luma controls as well.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

May 7, 2008 at 8:39 pmMagic Bullet makes Colorista which is a 3-way color corrector that is much better than Apple’s 3-way Color Corrector. It works very much like curves.

December 17, 2008 at 5:49 pmThis seems like such a simple feature. All the pixel math is right there in front of you on a graph. All you’re doing is some bezier interpolation of points and then amplifying or dampening a pixel’s color value. I know a lot of people that would throw $20 at someone who’d be willing to spend a couple Saturdays writing this plugin up!
Premiere has it, Vegas has it, After Effects has it…

Anyway, what’s the consensus on current solutions? Is colorista the best bet?
