What version of Quicktime do you have?
Let me ask… Why are you using Toast to make DVDs? DVD Studio Pro is the best and you already have it. And Compressor would be the best place to compress your programs any way you need them.
As for the black blinks… it sounds like you aren’t rendering your timelines before exporting them.

Here’s what I would do…
Clone your system drive with Carbon Copy Cloner, update FCP to 6.03 (it has more XDCAM support inside for the new 422 MPEG), and download the newest version of the Sony Transfer Software – version 2.70.
I haven’t seen anything like this since running these updates – BUT – only do this AFTER you clone your system drive. Its much easier to copy your drive back than to reinstall everything.

I don’t mind using the .motn files… As a matter of fact, I love using them. There’s no way to layout logos on screen until you see a final version in FCP. This is the way to do it.
My beef is how FCP reconnects with them and adds them to the list of Master Templates. Meaning, if you create a new template, you’ll have to restart FCP to see it in the list. And them sometimes, when you alter one of them (edit) and go back into FCP, FCP doesn’t re-link properly.

No problem…
Can you give me an idea of your current workflow and maybe I can help you figure one to help with your transition?

Don’t let learning a new workflow stop you from progressing…
New ideas and new workflows can be very daunting, but with proper knowledge, everything will work out beautifully.
Anytime a new product hits the shelves, there will always be new workflows that are associated with them. Moving from MiniDV to XDCAM was quite a jump for us. I won’t say there weren’t some real headaches but figuring out our own workflow was the key.
Keep in mind… Anytime a new product becomes available, its going to require that you upgrade your editing system in some capacity whether it be software related or hardware related. Don’t let this stop you from making more money.
[Michael Slowe] “I think that I’ll stick with going to HDV tape in SP mode pending further developments.”
This is like computers… it will never end. Further developments are occurring all of the time. You’ll never reach the end or pinnacle of this. Just pick the best option for your needs.

I agree completely with Scott.
If you are going to use multiple HDV cameras and one EX1, I’d use the EX1 in SP mode (25 mbits). This would be compatible with all of your HDV cameras. Mixing bit rates will cause you nothing but headaches – UNLESS you intend to capture everything thru Log and Capture. In that case, shoot in HQ mode (35 mbits).

What version of Colorista are you using? Should be 1.01
I would suggest that you repair your permissions, trash the pref for FCP, and if that doesn’t work, reinstall Colorista.

That’s because your bit rate is low. Try making it around 800 kbps and it should look very clean.

All very very impressive…
Some clients will go for this but some still want that DVD in hand to watch whenever and wherever they want. Personally, this is an awesome concept for client previews.
