I was there with Mark and its was under glass in the XDCAM section of the booth. Its a rather large box like the FlashXDR box. I know it was just a development thing right now… but Sony did say this would be something available late summer.
We were just hoping if someone else knew anything about it.

[Robert Dexter] “By the way, you can rename XDCAM discs in XDCAM Transfer! I don’t know about version 2.1, but if you upgrade to the latest version 2.7, in the main XDCAM Transfer window, you just select the disc in the Source list, go to the Information tab (bottom right), and edit the Source > Name.
“This has been working for some time now. I think it started in 2.0 version of the software.
As for the disk not showing on the desktop, with Leopard, you need at least version 2.5.1 to work properly.

I’ve learned that with the Primera duplicators, if you just tip it forward little bit, the discs come out better and it hangs up less. Primera printers have a tendency to drop the discs and they will slide back into the DVD recorders instead of coming down the ejection chute to the disc hopper, so tilting the machine forward just a little makes it better to eject discs.

Ouch… that sucks… But they had to start somewhere. Its kinda like those cheap Wal-Mart Lexmark printers.

I hear you…
You are very correct when you say that duplicators aren’t 100% reliable. But can you point out any computer or computer device that is…?
Considering all the issues that are listed out here on the net, I would have to say that Primera has the least amount of issues. Now, I will say that I would ONLY run a duplicator on PC since that is were the software is designed. They do run a Mac but not very well. Just use a cheap PC with an incredibly large hard drive for your disc images and everything will run pretty well.

Sorry, Chris, when I was talking about the colors… I wasn’t referring to your situation. I’ve just heard others say that Primera printers will get the colors wrong from time to time. I have yet to see any of that – but when working with Photoshop, if your monitor is not properly calibrated for the printer – prints will always be wrong. This is true for ALL printers and Photoshop.
As for your issue you had, Chris. Couldn’t just select in the printer driver to print B&W only? I’m not familiar with this duplicator but I can with the Primera dups.

Here’s the thing…
Duplicators are awesome when they work. How long that will be… no one really knows. All I can say is, how much does it cost for a third party duplication per disc and how much does it cost for your own duplicator? If it lasts a couple of years, you’ve probably made your money’s worth.
As for printing issues with the Primera, I haven’t seen any of these and I have never had a client say that orange isn’t the right shade of orange. The Bravo series are lightweights but I have never had to make more than 300 copies at one time. The Bravo II printed 1500 its first year before we had to clean it. Now, we have a Bravo Pro so that we can do more. The Bravo II is a great backup and small job printer.

We use the Primera Bravo series duplicators. We have a Bravo II and a Bravo Pro. Both work great. But I will say that the software is much better on the PC than the Mac. The Bravo II is around $1900 and the Bravo Pro is about $2600.
Personally, I would purchase the Bravo Pro. Its beefer and can dup up to 100 discs at a time. It has two burners whereas the Bravo II only has one burner.

How are you doing this? What process are you going through when you see this error?
I hope I’m not missing your question but let me see if I can answer it for you.
Anytime you capture footage or import footage, FCP automatically creates a master clip for that file. The icon you see is a master clip icon. Now, when you place markers on clips, you create what is called a subclip. The icon looks like a torn edged master clip icon. You can make master clips from these, if you’d like. But you can’t make a master clip from a master clip.
Just to show you what I am talking about. Right-Click (Control-Click for a one button mouse) and scroll down the column to Item Properties, then click on Logging Info. This will show you all of the logging info for that clip, including if it is a master clip.

I have to ask… Are these clips that you have very long clips with markers placed on them (subclips)? If they are, you’ll see a little arrow to the left of the master clip icon. You can open this arrow to show you all of you subclips. From there, you can create independent master clips if you wish.
Now, when you have a clip in your sequence, you can make an independent master clip from that if you’d like, but I have never done this since almost everything you do in FCP is non-destructive to the clip and only affects that clip in your sequence. What I’m trying to say is that you can have the same clip in your sequence ten times and use ten different effects and it will never destroy your clip in the bin window – it will just affect the clip in the sequence only.
