In all seriousness. I agree with you completely. Being able to fully print out your timecodes in sub-clips would be absolutely awesome. Then you could have an offline sheet to work with clients.

Well…. when you rotate an object, you’re going to either have black bars on the sides for full frame or if you fill the frame without zooming in, its going to look squeezed.
We need more info to help you better. What codec are you using? What is your final output? Explain why you are shooting something sideways.

That is correct…
When they labeled the 1394 port as HDV, that means ONLY 25 mbit HDV thru that port. 35 mbit stream has never come thru the 1394 port on ANY Sony camera. Now, I don’t know if you can connect this to a laptop and use something like OnLocation. I can do this with the PDW-F350 camera but I can’t say for sure on the EX series.

That’s what I thought, too…
I remember hear the networks using stuff like T1 lines for this kind of thing but that’s WAY too expensive for the average joe.

What kind of HD are you trying to edit? Uncompressed?
If not, it should work just fine with just about anything. Can you hook it up fw800 and test the drive?
Also, you might want to consider setting the RAID to RAID 0, instead of RAID 0+1. It will be faster but you loose on protection. Use your internal drive to save the Project Backups and everything will be OK.

Personally, I’d contact the client and ask them if they expect you to make the conversion to NTSC or wait until the color correction has been completed.
The best way to do this is to find someone with a high quality ARC and have them do the conversion for you. Otherwise it will have to be up to software, and that’s never a good thing… (my opinion).
What capture card do you have OR is this media already digitized?

I gotcha… Let me ask you a couple of things here. Is you final product always DVD or do you also send to broadcast? The reason I ask is your workflow works for you but it could be improved upon.
Don’t take this wrong but are you totally lock into editing with Media100 only? I ask this only because Media100 is making some great strides to make it back into the business but they are still way behind the curve in development. If there is anyway for you to look into going towards Final Cut Pro, all of your issues and problems that you are having would be eliminated. I’m not saying that you need new everything, just the editing software. FCP and Sony’s EX1 work beautifully together. I’m not a salesperson either… just an experienced editor that used to work on a Media100 before seeing the light and we have been using XDCAM for the past three years now.

This all depends on the compression and the program used to create your DVDs. What are you using?
