Something to consider…
Gracenote has nothing to do with Apple per say except that iTunes uses Gracenote for identifying disc media.
I would have to assume that eventually Gracenote would have to insert Blu-Ray titles into their database and iTunes is also used on PCs that have Blu-Ray drives installed on them. Thus to keep up with competetion, iTunes will have to support Blu-Ray in some form.

That is so very true… Anytime you rewrite a program, it will take considerable time to work out all of the real use bugs. Testing at Apple is one thing, beta testing is another BUT getting the product in the real world allowing full time users to get their hands on it will really show any bugs in the programming.
After some time has passed, then I’d jump on the band wagon. But this is how our shop works because we depend solely on FCP to make us money.

Well, let me say this….
If you wait for the next rumored version, you’ll never buy anything. There will always be rumored version of ANY software.
I would suggest that you purchase now and upgrade later. Any amount of time that you wait will be lost time in learning AND any future productivity.

The proximity effect is always a good thing…..
But let me tell you the secret to becoming knowledgeable about FCP.
We all got this knowledge from one of two ways or even both. One… Just digging in into FCP and see what you can do. Two…. Living on your computer and watching the COW threads picking apart peoples brains for knowledge.
There’s really a third and a fourth but most of us don’t have the time. Watching tutorials and visiting trade shows like NAB.

Do search for a tutorial on hdv to prores. This will give you a starting point. You’ll have create an Easy Setup for capturing dv to prores. It can be done.

You can capture you DV footage to ProRes 422 thru firewire. we do it all the time with DV and HDV so that we can edit more smoothly. Its far better than dealing with the issues you are seeing.

This may be due to many things happening….
The economy is in the toilet…. business is down for lots of folks… and Apple is trying to survive this period. Meaning that the ProApps really aren’t broken so let’s not put alot into it at this moment. Apple hasn’t abandoned us, just hasn’t put much forth in the way of new development.
I may be wrong… but more than likely, you’ll hear about upgrade sometime around MacWorld or whenever Apple feels like saying something.
Its sad to say this… but NAB doesn’t quite carry the weight anymore since the popularity of the Internet. Forums like the COW have really made companies think about their presence at trade shows. We discuss more about their products than they could. Better explainations and much more thorough testing in the real world situations.
That’s my two cents…
