I second Walter’s answer. I’ve been using FCP since 3.0 and I have never seen that feature work as specified in the help file and in the manual. BUT Walter’s suggestion always works, but it does have some difficulty when using it with the Sony HDV M10U deck. I’ll get timecode break while in the middle of a continuous clip.

Yeah…. its very awkward to use. You just need to keep playing with the settings until you find one that works. It sure would be nice to find a plugin that could do this very easily. Most of us aren’t audio experts. We just need to know that say -12db is our maximum level.

Well….. Quicktime can handle most of the AVI formats and should be able to open them. If not, you’ll have to convert it on a PC to a codec that Quicktime can use. Convert it to the Animation codec and import it or you could convert it to whatever codec you are using in your project.

Yeah… its kinda funny, isn’t it? I didn’t think you can set the refresh rate on a LCD panel. They are always set at 60 Hz. So, how is it that Apple is doing it when I have Apple LCD panels on a Mac? Hmmmm……..

That’s very true, Arnie. And I’m afraid that it not going to change anytime in the near future, either. But, Sony Vegas has this capability and its software only, so I know that Apple can figure something out.

Its a nice thought BUT nobody broadcasts in true 16×9 UNLESS you are talking about HD. You’ll have to drop you 16×9 sequence in a 4×3 sequence so that you have the proper perspective when going to tape. I may be wrong about the broadcasts but i have never seen this before on TV.

Nope…. Not yet! I don’t forsee this being fixed by Apple anytime soon. At least, until there is a major update. Until then, it would be much better and more beneficial to purchase an HDV to HD converter and capture in actual HD rather than HDV.

Just don’t use FCP on the old computer. If you still want to use it, you’ll have to purchase another coy of FCP. Otherwise, you’ll have to delete the copy of FCP on the old computer. You can contact Apple to see what they suggest and if they will sell you just a serial number, but I’m pretty sure that you;ll have to purchase another full copy.
