I agree with you completely. Sometimes it does take an eye opener in front of lots of users to open the eyes of a company. I did this with Media100 years ago and our issues were corrected in about 2 months.

Seems to be a thing with Sony… But what do you expect from a deck that cost around $2500. Until a true broadcast deck comes available, you’ll just have to wade through.

I’m wanna drop in my two cents worth…
I’m afraid that was told by a salesperson/tech support that his system was getting old and “wearing out”. That is the oldest tactic in the book with sales and people who are completely unknowledgeable about the inner workings of a computer. To survive in this day and age, you really need to have a good working knowledge of computers and how they work.
Now… In their defense… Computers that work hard and long every day will not last as long as those that have occasional usage. Programs that severly task the processors causing the fans to run at higher speeds will have some affect on the life of the computer. I’m sure everyone here knows the expression, “heat kills”. This is very , very true. If your computer in not in a wel ventilated area that is cool (around 72 degrees and lower, preferably around 68 degrees), you computer will have more problems and issues down the road.
Here’s the thing… Your computer costs and the profits from you company should be weighed when deciding you computer upgrades. In our business, computers are cheap and easily replaced. Hard drives and backups are not.

I think that John described it best for me. But after doing some more research about the Mac Pro, I have found out that most of my issues were related to memory issues. Come to find out that the Mac Pro’s memory requirements and FCP are very tough and since the Mac Pro is so very new, there was a problem with my memory.
If you are using a Mac Pro or plan on purchasing one in the future, PLEASE make absolutely sure that all of your memory is the same size and from the same manufacturer. And this may sound strange but memory from the same lots make all the difference in the world. In other words, if you have 2 gig of RAM in your Mac Pro and you want to upgrade it to 4 gig. You really need to replace all on the memory at the same time to keep compatibility issues with FCP. Now, I’m not absolutely positive if this will relate to purchasng Mac memory straight from Apple BUT this does apply to any third party memory manufacturer.
By the way, we are working with XDCAM HD converting it to DVCProHD for edit.

The XDCAM HD 350 camera HAS an HD-SDI output on the back of the camera, next to the XLR connectors. Now, the 330 doesn’t have this option.
If you rent this camera, its a good as a deck for your purposes.
