New Intel Xeon chip for G5
Posted by Frank Cervarich on January 17, 2007 at 9:09 pmGoing in to MacWorld I was led to believe that Apple was set to introduce a newer, faster Intel Xeon chip for the G5. That didn’t happen. Guess the iPhone ate up all the attention span at Apple HQ.
Has anyone any thoughts on when and if this will happen? I was holding off my upgrade of a system until after MacWorld. How long do I wait?Walter Biscardi replied 19 years, 3 months ago 7 Members · 8 Replies -

January 17, 2007 at 9:45 pmI talked to Steve about this and he agreed that he would wait so I had another 3 months to say, “Yes, I bought the fastest computer on the earth.”
After that, all bets off.

Oh yeah… how would you put an Intel Xeon chip into a G5? It would be possible with a new Mac Pro but might be trouble in a G5…

Cisco. Interestingly enough I own stock in both. Apple is trying to skirt the issue by calling the “Apple iPhone,” and not just iPhone.
Yeah..right…

Actually what I read is that the Cisco phone is a VoIP phone while the Apple is a cellular phone. So some technical folks have said Apple technically has a chance in this one to prevail. Slim chance, but they are, as of right now, two different phones.
