Hey Neil – Thanks for the Very thorough response. I usually leave core video footage on an external drive and keep the PP files and things like additional photos, music, effect passes, round trips on a desktop folder as (mac) the cloud would back that up. I’d have 2 copies of the source footage files on 2 separate external drives. But it would be simpler to just have a system that keeps both drives the same on an hourly basis – everything in one place – thank you again and I will investigate the two options

Yes – I still have an old Mac with a kona card installed and Media 100! – so I can do it that way. Only problem is Media 100 and all the old systems transcodes everything – then I gotta drop it in a m100 time line and export to h264

    but thank you!

I also would second the proxy route. I cut a whole hour last year with proxies and everything worked perfectly. On output Premiere used the originals and it went real well. The only hitch is when you want to use lumetri for you color out – it’s better to see everything in it’s true form – but other than that – I like proxies

Nancy I am editing a 4k project and proxies were easy and saved the day – really seamless and you can put a water mark on them (when making them in adobe encoder) – you can also put a “hot” button on the program window to switch back and forth
