Hi all, full of turkey yet? I’m looking for cheap box or dongle to take the dv out of a Sony dv tape player and digitize into premiere.

    Thanks

    Mark

Cheap usually means out of sync capture.

Best is to find a computer, install a firewire card and connect with firewire.

Now you can capture with Premiere.

Yes – I still have an old Mac with a kona card installed and Media 100! – so I can do it that way. Only problem is Media 100 and all the old systems transcodes everything – then I gotta drop it in a m100 time line and export to h264

    but thank you!

H.264 is not a very good format for old DV footage.

If possible export to Prores 422 hq.

or just edit natively in DV which should work fine in Premiere. You can get a firewire to thunderbolt adapter and a thunderbolt to thunderbolt 3 adapter from apple. I got this to work about a year ago going in to a 2017 macbook pro capturing both hdv and dv natively . Post back if you want the specific adapters. It may be possible to use quicktime to capture natively on your old mac… Ann’s probably got the answer to that…
