I would love to buy both of them. However They are both out of my price range.

By the time one has kitted these cameras out they will both cost considerably more than the quoted prices.

Both will produce stunning images but I would not self operate either of them. I would employ an experienced cinematographer as they seem fit into a different workflow than that of a self shooting Director / Editor.

This whole thing started with people like Vincent Laforet discovering the Canon 5Dmk11. That was 3 years ago and it precipitated a real change in the accessibility of really high definition and affordable cameras.

For a relatively small investment one could buy a camera that produced truly stunning image quality and slowly build up a set of lenses to cover different situations.

I personally found it really hard to concentrate on getting both good images and sound with a DSLR and bought a Canon XF305. I now use the DSLR to get specialised shots

Interestingly the new Canon C300 uses the Canon XF codec (50Mbps 4:2:2 1080p30 MPEG2 MXF)

If there a race between these cameras it would have to be a three horse race by adding the Sony PMW F3.

Fo me I’m going start saving up for the new 4k Cinema EOS DSLR. Hopefully that will priced closer to the 5D MK11.

Any idea how to get audio into Logic Pro?

Hi Jonathan,

Not sure when your project is due to kick off but have you considered using X27 to export your audio out to FCP7 and then via OMF to either Logic or Pro Tools?

I’ve been unsuccessful in my experiment with Magic Duck – but probably due to ineptness in try to send audio from FCPX to Logic Pro as an experiment.

I’m sure if audio is your only concern that there would be a way of exporting audio tracks out in various combinations and then re-importing once you have worked on them.

One thing I have found on longer projects is that construction the programme in short segments on within different projects and then as you are getting nearer to completion assembling the segments in a new project is more effective as working on a long complicated project (timeline) seems to get very sticky.

Maybe you will split the work between FCPX and FCP7?

This in my opinion is the most serious bug I came across with 10.0.1.

I never had it with 10.0

As I’ve painfully learnt there is no point in continuing working once you become aware that cmd Z is not working. Nothing will be saved once you quit the application.

Again one solution is to trash the preferences and restart.

A lot of the problems I’ve encountered with the 10.0.1 update were sorted out by trashing the application and re downloading it from the App store.

Since I did this this problem has not reoccured.

This problem is not a permanent bug.

It is possible to get around it very easily through either quitting and restarting FCP X and if that does not work, simply quit, trash the preferences and re-start.

The Preference Manager app from Digital Rebellion makes this a doddle. ( its a free download )

If you force quit the application a crash report is automatically sent to Apple, the technical data gathered from these reports all feeds into producing more stable future updates.

As Alban points out this problem is not related to whether you are running FCPX on Lion or Snow Leopard.

Don’t let this stop you working with FCPX.

10.0.1 is much less buggy than 10.0

Well this rumor has been around for a while although it has never been stated this clearly before.

One reason MacPro sales might be down at the moment is that everybody (well me ) is waiting for a new model to be launched. One with Thunderbolt as well as faster processors.

People say the iMac and MacMini, both now with thunderbolt, are sufficient to serve the market.

I would really miss the MacPro. One of the biggest advantages for me are the quad drive bays let alone the processing speed.

My MacPro is 4 years old now and I need an upgrade so I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed that this is indeed – just a rumor.

And then click the print button on top right of the web page and then rather than print – save it as a pdf onto your desktop, you will have constant access to FCPX Help.

Should the software be updated again in the near future you will need to do this again as the contents change with each iteration.

What exactly are you waiting for?

FCPX was launched 4 months ago. It is what it is.

Whilst in time it will meet more peoples professional needs I can’t ever see Walter Murch stacking 24 tracks of video in it.

It’s clearly designed for a new editing paradigm. Not one based on the traditions of celluloid film editing.

The message is really clear. If people want to edit on a system that is similar to FCP7 they need to shift platforms.

Time will tell whether Apple are right in severing their links with what can now be seen as traditional NLE.

If Jeremys suggestions do not work you could try re-installing FCPX by trashing the version you have got and re downloading from the App store.

I have found this has fixed similar ‘what the f***’ problems.

By the way do you have 2 versions of FCPX on you system? You mention that ver10.0 doesn’t recognize your events and projects anymore? I can’t see how this is possible.

This article runs through various trouble shooting options but it sounds like you have already tried some of these.

The main thing however is that you still have your Events and projects intact. That’s encouraging.
