Progress BUG
Posted by Simon Chan on November 2, 2011 at 12:03 amSo I noticed FCPX 10.0.1 can stop saving your progress. At some point during my edit I noticed I couldn’t UNDO. I kept editing though, which was a bad idea. I made one false move and bam I couldn’t UNDO it. So I quit. Reopened FCPX. All that work I did from the point that I noticed UNDO wasn’t working was gone. Really disappointing I have to trust FCPX to save my work. I still hit the COMMAND S key every minute by habbit. FRUSTRATING!

November 2, 2011 at 9:35 amYep, what you will find is that you can undo stuff that does not matter, but not udo things that count. Maybe a way to save versions is to quit out of the program often…. PS Motion does the same thing, some text changes can’t be undone. It skips over them.

November 2, 2011 at 11:18 amIt SEEMS to happen after visiting the Transform Effect. See if you notice the same thing. Note that I said ‘SEEMS’ because it’s where I’ve always noticed that bug, but that isn’t scientific. I’ve developed the habit of checking on that after going to the Transform Effect and back.

November 2, 2011 at 11:35 amHad the same problem lately, it’s quite annoying. seems to happen mostly when working with effects like transforms and color correction. Though you can avoid losing your progress via duplicating your project and then restarting fcpx.

November 2, 2011 at 12:23 pmAre you running Lion or Snow Leopard?
I’m on Lion and I’ve never had Save fail, or lost Undo.
I thought this was an issue that was addressed on 10.0.1.

November 2, 2011 at 12:24 pmDon,
Can you tell me what you do with the Transform effect? I’ll try it out once in a while, just to see if I can repeat it, since I’ve never had the issue since on 10.0.1.

November 2, 2011 at 12:36 pmThis in my opinion is the most serious bug I came across with 10.0.1.
I never had it with 10.0
As I’ve painfully learnt there is no point in continuing working once you become aware that cmd Z is not working. Nothing will be saved once you quit the application.
Again one solution is to trash the preferences and restart.
A lot of the problems I’ve encountered with the 10.0.1 update were sorted out by trashing the application and re downloading it from the App store.
Since I did this this problem has not reoccured.

November 2, 2011 at 2:59 pmI have the FCPX update but it still happens to me where I suddenly can’t undo and I realize that the software is not auto saving. I’ve noticed that it seems to happen with the loss of the skimmer when returning from a Trim mode. I mostly work with the skimmer off these days, but when I do use it, that has been the tell. But, this is only anecdotal evidence and I only offer it to see if others are (or are not) seeing the same thing.

November 3, 2011 at 11:52 amAnother thing I’ve noticed is that FCPX will partially hang. In other words, the playhead will be moving but then stop but the sound and picture will continue. I do a CMD-1 then CMD-2 and the playhead movement is restored. I wonder if others see the same thing.
