Try setting your properties to match the source video and turn off scaling on the preview window. I’m running the EVGA GTX 570HD and the preview is keeping up with 1920x1080x32,59.940 with preview set at Best Full. I added a Sony GPU Sepia plugin. I also get good performance at Full Auto too.
I’m running 301.24 NVidia drivers released April 9th 2012.
FYI…I get much worse performance with the default scaling feature and setting it to preview quality.

Mine is not greyed out when I follow your steps. SVP 11 build 595 and I don’t have Source Forge, but do have Acid Music Studio 8.0.

Look at the preview window while you try the different settings. You should not change the render settings in most cases. If you want the black bars then crop away. If you want to zoom the image to fill the 1920×1080 frame, then right click in the pan/crop window and choose Match Output Aspect (or Source Aspect). If you set your project properties to be 1920×1080 then both Source and Output Aspect options should give the same result.

What if you do shift M or “Selectively Prerender Video”? Does that help?

I get the same thing when using pan/crop. Try using Track Motion instead. You can click on the track motion icon for the video track and see a similar box like you do for the pan/crop. Here you can make it smaller without the pixelated mess. I think track motion is the better way to do this.

I am not sure I understand what you are doing, but if you want a mask to reveal the video underneath, try the Sony cookie cutter plugin and animate the center parameter to “pan” across the image.

I use HD Writer 3.0 software to transfer content from my TM900 camera. I usually shoot short clips, but I did find this thread that explains how to combine them with HD Writer.

I can reproduce this too. I tried with 1080p video and with a single jpg and got the same results. I tried using the Zoom Edit tool and using the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in. I tried with GPU on and off. I tried to find another option to get the same results that Stephen did (where it worked), but could not find one.
EDIT—-
A workaround is to use the anchor delete tool and hold down the ALT key as you select the anchor point to delete. I noticed if I did not hold down the ALT key, then the entire path was selected and deleted. -
I went back to SVP 10e and it works just like Stephen described. I can undo each anchor point with CTRL-Z.
I also noticed that in SVP 11, it only processes the first CTRL-Z while the Video Event FX window has the focus. To undo each point with CTRL-Z, I need to click on the main SVP 11 window to give it focus each time I want to do an undo action. If you can confirm this also, then I will submit a report to Sony. I just want to confirm I did not overlook some other setting.

I get the same as you with the above steps.But if I then right click on the selected Audio events (or one of them), the External Editor option is _not_ greyed out, but the attempt fails with Audacity, or I get the video stream as well if I use SF and an avi file. Audacity always tries to open a video file and fails.”
This is where Audacity displays six audio tracks for me. I don’t get the error here, although I would rather edit a single track at a time. After watching Sony’s recent Webinar on the mixing console, I am more apt to use Vegas’s audio tools.
