December 12, 2012 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Today Only – 12/12/12 – Vegas Pro Upgrade $99.95

I use SVP 12 for the same home and non-profit use. I regretted not upgrading to SVP 10 when it first came out with the introductory offer of saving $50. Later when I built a new system and moved from Windows XP to Windows 7, I decided that I would get much better support if I ran the current Sony 64bit offering than trying to get SVP 8 64bit to work. So I ended up paying more than if I just would have taken the initial offering. Since then I have kept Sony Vegas current. If you think you will continue to use Sony Vegas Pro then I think it is worth the price of a tank or so of gas to avoid the support frustration of needing the latest version because something else changed on your system beyond your control (QuickTime, Windows components, etc.)

I don’t have Windows 8 either, but I did install MS SQL Server Management Studio (free download from Microsoft). It allows you to see the database that the Media Manager installed. Use this to see if Media Manager got installed and just could not set some of the security settings.

December 10, 2012 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Sluggish Hard Drive

Are there thousands of files in a single directory? Sometimes the overhead of the operating system maintaining the directory entries for a large directory can cause this type of sluggishness. That is usually coupled with fragmentation of the files (scattered throughout the drive rather than organized neatly in contiguous sections).

I would think the performance in any virtual machine would be disappointing, considering how much it taxes real hardware. Your best bet would be with boot camp.

Just for kicks, I tried it with the NewBlue Titler Pro that comes with Vegas Pro 11 and 12. I added a couple paragraph text blocks that consisted of “* *” and keyframed them to rotate in a 3D space. Played with the offsets between the text blocks, paragraphs in NewBlue, and it looked promising. I had the NewBlue title event just above the video I wanted the dizzy stars.

I agree with Steve. Go with build 737 32bit version of Vegas Pro 10

    https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily

You only have 4GB of RAM in your system, so there is really no advantage to running the 64bit version of Vegas, since a main driver for using the 64bit version is to utilize more memory than 4GB (i.e. 12GB)

December 6, 2012 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Sony Acid Pro

Not much from Sony on this topic from my research the last few months. Seems that the newer consumer version of Sony Acid Music Studio 9 performs better on multi-core systems than the Pro 7 version. Sony Vegas Pro has been updated and overlaps with some of the functionality of Acid Pro and hence I was curious if the combination of Sony Vegas Pro 12 and Acid Music Studio 9 would be better than the older Acid Pro 7.

Great responses. I appreciate the detail into why the ghosting would appear. I will definitely give that a try the next time I make a BD.

I have a similar camcorder, Panasonic TM900, shooting at 1080p 60fps. I notice that people recommend disabling the resampling, but I am unclear when I should do that.

Is it based on going from a 1080p to 1080i (i.e. 60p to 60i)or would I also disable resampling going from 1080x60p to 1080x24p?
