I try to remember to turn off the GPU feature in SVP when rendering longer projects, because it is more reliable with the CPU only and the render times are acceptable to me.

I might have switched to the AMD card that was getting better reviews, but I had nearly $300 in EVGA bucks from doing the Folding at Home that getting the GTX970 was very cheap. In that forum thread I refer to, they mention that the Vegas Pro timeline acceleration is OpenCL so it works with the newer cards. The support for the older AMD and Nvidia cards are in the rendering code that Sony licenses. Most of my workflow is editing time and if I could improve that with a small incremental cost to upgrade to the GTX970 and maintain the investment in time and money with my SVP13 system,then it was my best course of action.

I have both the Nvidia GTX 970 and 570. The 970 has much better preview performance and New Blue Titler Pro 4 uses it too. I left the GTX 570 in when I do the Folding at Home to get EVGA credit. That will use both GPUs. I could select the 570 to perform renders in Sony, but I have realized that the preview performance is really what helps my workflow.

It is adding it to the Project Media list with your workflow, so even though you have not added it to the timeline, it is tracking the media for you. I will get a Vegas message when media I did not end up using on the timeline has been moved to another drive when I open up some of my older projects. That is the dialog that lets me search for the media. I would check the media folder to see if all the file sizes looked reasonable (no zero byte or unusually large size files potentially indicating a file corruption). The subclip may have an invalid reference to the original media file, something like pointing past the end of the file. I created a subclip in Vegas Pro 13 and it saves it in the veg project file. Do you use Sony Media Manager too? It may save it there, but I cannot check since I no longer run Sony Media Manager. It looks like it stores the timecode in and timecode out for the subclip in the veg file.

You will probably need to contact Boris support for this answer. Boris uses a common text edit component between all their applications. Have you recently removed a Boris application that may have had problems with the uninstall. It could be that the registry thinks it is installed already and why reinstalling is not forcing it back in place. If it were me, I would try uninstalling again and then use regedit to remove any Boris related entries and also clear off the file system of Boris directories and then try reinstalling again. That is what the Boris support may step you through, but they would have the knowledge about which entries to remove. Beware that you should have a backup, since corrupting the registry will prevent your system from booting up.

I would try the higher bitrate. You have it here at 10Mbps for 1080p, try bumping that up to 16Mbps to see if that helps and confirm if the problem really is bitrate.

He is a picture of what it should look like. I started with inserting a video track and then inserted an empty event. Make sure the dialog did not pop up behind Vegas for some reason.

Is it in the Video Preview Window on the second monitor. In the upper left area of that Window there is a drop down box that adjusts the preview. It might say “Preview (Full)”, “Best (Full)”, etc. Select one of the Auto options to scale the 1080p video to the lower resolution monitor.

Kind of a hack, but it was on the Sony forum…Rename the *.ac3 file to have the .mpg extension and then you can drag it onto the timeline. I added .mpg after the .ac3 extension (myDVD.ac3 became myDVD.ac3.mpg) so the video file was still intact.

I have found that digital media requires more attention to preserve than film/paper. Hard drives may be the most flexible option today, but you will need to keep transferring it to a current technology as hard drives do fail in a short period of time, as you pointed out. It is getting hard to find a computer to read firewire drives, much less the older IDE and SCSI interfaces of not that long ago in terms of archival storage. I have some film slides from my grandfather that had been sitting neglected for decades, back to the 1950’s. A cheap Epson flatbed scanner is able to read them in with nice color for their age. I’m not sure when the time comes if my grandsons would be able to retrieve data from hard drives that had been neglected for decades.

So for now, use hard drives and don’t neglect your media for too long.

I never noticed an issue. Under Project Properties under the Audio tab, you can set the resample quality to something better to see if that makes a difference. The other option is to resample the audio portion in another program like Sound Forge (Sony)or Audacity (free).
