I think that it sounds like the render settings from Maya are off. Have you tried different render setting out of Maya ???

Create your own drop shadow ( duplicate layer, add fill filter and gaussian blur, adjust opacity) then offset position to liking. Now use the layer that you want to have the drop shown on as a track matte for the created shadow (duplicate etc). Now create a Nul layer and parent the original layer and the drop shadow layer to this Nul to ease keyframing.

For anything that is not captured footage, I would always bring it directly into Boris from the hard drive, not through media100…in fact, I am about to save you a whack of time 🙂 I am a former media100 editor and this was my workflow when working with Boris Red.

1. Capture in media100…I used to capture at 200kb….the difference is negligable and the drive space saved is not.

2. Create a composition and open Boris Red.

3. Use the bin browser function to bring in clips.

4. Save Boris Red project and exit (wha you say…..let me finish)

5. Minimize media100.

6. Open the Boris Red engine

7. Open the saved project.

8. Bring into Red using the icons on the timeline all other elements.

9. Enjoy the speed benefits.

10.Send me cases of imported beer…(sorry)

11. Render out movie in media100 codec.

Ok, here’s the deal. The reason that you don’t want to run Red inside media100 is simple, media100 passes along everything to Boris, including ram. You will notice that the engine will run much faster than the plug-in. You will also notice that when you bring in an element with an alpha from the drives, you get an alpha…media100 WILL NOT pass along alpha info to Red…..

Give this a try….it is a much better workflow

I have seen this on XP Pro….Not just in the project window, but also in the import dialog box…..shutdown restart took care off (Have seen it maybe 2 times).

Particle illusion. Sorry not to suggest Boris…there is a particle generator in Boris, but its just so easy with particle illusion.

I can’t speak for FCP, but Boris has very food keyers….If you don’t get a good key, there are a few things you can try.

This is an after effects trick, but it works in Red….Duplicate your footage layer. Apply gaussian blur to top layer…around 10-15 pixels. Now set the compositing mode on this layer to either soft light or overlay (depends on footage, overlay may make it too dark).
Precompose these two layers. Apply the chroma key to the precomp and key. Apply levels and clean up levels.

Why do this you may ask ??? Well, this principal softens the video a little, makes it loook better in most cases, helps the lighting of the green screen appear more constant, and helps reduce DV artifacting.

The reason behind the flicker is interlace. Television sets will display the 1 pixel line on for one field, then off for the next. Fine lines can be helped by using the reduce interlace filter in AE. This filter adds vertical blur. Thin lines get worse when you move them. The flicker becomes more apparent.

Make sure that you have the correct fonts loaded into your system fonts directory. Do a search on this forum as to how exactly Boris handles fonts, there have been many posts in the past.

Now, make sure that your keyboard is set to spanish. If your accents are not showing up, check that they are showing up in other applications, such as word.

If you absolutely can’t get the accents to show up, then use the charmap app that comes with windows (I am assuming you are on windows) to copy and paste the accents to your text. This app can be accessed by going to start – run – type charmap into the run dialog box.

I use french accents inside Boris Red all day at work and have issues. When I need non-french accents I use charmap to get them in.
