I use the wiggler for this one. I put a black solid layer on the top of all layers, then add two opacity keyframes, one at the beginning, one at the end…both are set to around 30% opacity. I then apply the wiggler. I usually set the amount to around 20 and the frequency to 24. You can also play around with transfer modes, such as multiply. I find also repeating the above but with a slight blur can help acheive the look.

August 24, 2006 at 10:34 am in reply to: When we should use uncompressed format

I work in Liquid. To get files from Liquid to AE, since they are DV I usually just fuse my sequence and then open up the fuse in AE. I would use X-Send for some projects, but unfortunately it has let me down a few times so I stick to fusing.

I render out of AE using Quicktime (Animation codec).

I will capture and fuse uncompressed from Liquid if I am doing any Chroma keying work. Again, X-Send has given me field rendering issues, so I stick with fusing.

    Hope this helps

Duplicate the layer with player. Mask out player on top layer. Apply stoke effect to the layer and set the filter to use mask for it’s contour.

Delete AE’s preference files. they can, and in my case have become corrupted.

I have created my “master” set of preferences. I then copied this AE preference folder to a secure location. Anytime AE starts acting up, I simply drop this folder over the corrupted one…Voila, 2 secs and back up and running.

    Hope this helps

August 20, 2006 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Creating Efficient Luminance Mattes in AE?

I usually apply to a duplicate of the original, then I layer the matte, another duplicate and then the original.

Chris was right tho, I misread the original…..my method is for using colors to generate the mattes.

Have you tried usuing threshold on a duplicate ? This will allow you to isolate highlights and lows.

On the change color filter there is a view setting at the top that allows you to select to view the matte generated.

    regards

For this kind of work, I use change color, then isolate my color, then change the render view of the filter to matte….this creates a luma matte dependant on color. I can then play with levels or blurs on the matte and use it to luma matte other layers for such things as color correction, or color isolation. I often use this filter for chroma keying if i can not get a clean key.

August 18, 2006 at 6:19 pm in reply to: AE 7 crashing my computer

I am on a PC, but I ind that AE 7 is hog for ram…make sure that you have plenty of it. My workstation at work only has a gig of ram and I find that AE7 would definately run better with more (I have 2 gigs at home and it is way faster)

try bringing up the ambient light on the light tab.

You can also add multiple lights to a scene..one could be for general lighting, the other for the spotlight.

    Hope this helps,

Cleaner will do this for you, so will a host of other compression programs.

I am not sure if the free windows media encoder from Microsoft will accept rm files as input, but it is free and will compress to wmv.

One thing that shocked me is that quicktime pro will open avi files and then let you recompress to quicktime…pretty cool. Maybe the windows media encoder will do the same (don’t have it on this machine, so can’t check for you.)

I also did a simple google search and this site came up…don’t know if it is any good…. https://www.boilsoft.com/download.html

    Good luck
