AS jimmybee said, you should try and match the comp to footage. TRy dragging the footage onto the make new compostion icon at the bottom of the project window. This will ensure that the comp matches the footage.

I would say that your computer is probably not fast enough to playback the amount of data that your movie needs to playback smoothly.
I would suspect that you have rendered in animation codec, no codec or maybe a blackmagic 10 bit codec . All of these codecs or non-codecs require quite a lot of processor to display the movies without a hitch. It could also have something to do with a running process interfering, such as an anti-virus.

Sounds like a field issue. Are you rendering out with fields turned on ? Also, is your comp rate set to 29.97 ???? Last question (promise) are your rendering to best quality and full resolution ???

Or if on a PC, go to start, run, type charmap, go down the list till you find something, then copy and paste it into your text layer.

Dupsta,
I have used keylight with your same setup a lot, and sorry to say, have never seen this problem. Is it on all frames, or just some ?
Thanks

September 27, 2006 at 12:38 pm in reply to: After Effects 6.5 or 7.0 High Definition Render (Codec) SettingsBut the Dynamic link makes it so that the effects do not have to transfer over to Premiere….If done correctly, the dynamic link allows After Effects to keep tabs, and premiere only to render to it’s codec, all the while After Effects is the one still managing the comp.

If you buy the Invigorator plug, then you can also purchase high quality 3d models, such as a soccer ball from CreativeCow leader Serge Hamad.
I do not know the invigorator very well at all, but I reviewed these models and was able to get a very realistic soccer ball in seconds using the models. It also comes with a basketball, football and a whole slew of other objects.

Create a comp. Call this comp noise comp. In this comp apply fractal noise to a solid. Adjust and animate fractal noise to look smokey. It may take a bit of tweaking, but it is really not that hard. Adjust the transform of the fractal noise to rise, such as smoke would.
Now, bring this comp into your second comp, the one that has your text. Close the visibility of the noise comp.
Apply the displacement map filter to your first text and select the noise comp as your displacement map. I would suggest using the luminance channels for the distortion. When you want the text to go up in smoke, animate the text’s position slightly with a big ease towards the upper portion of the comp, at the same time animate the distortion amount of the distortion map from 0 to a good value (depends on the size of text and amount of distortion wanted). You can also animate a blur to the text.
To complete the effect, duplicate the text, and use it as a track matte for the nois comp (turn back on the visibilty of the noise track). Now make sure that these two layers are above the original text and animate the opacity values of the noise comp from 0 to 100 at the point where the text starts to move.
Now, to get the other text to move through, create the move on the second text (zoom I would presume). Once the move is good enough, then duplicate this text layer and place the duplicate at the top of the comp. Now animate it’s opacity at the point where it looks like it should come through the smoke. For added realism, you can use the noise comp as a displacment map to these two text layers as they move through the smoke.
Hope this gets you started

I’m not sure if Dave is referring to the path text filter, if he is, then there is another way. Draw a mask the shape you need, create text, twirl down timeline until you see path options and select the mask. Voil
