Ther must be an expression to do this, but unfortunately I am very basic with expressions.
I would probably use the motion sketch command, along with the smoother, and then play around with the temporal interpolation to get the look I wanted.
You will probably want to animate the rotation properties in 3d to match the motion path.
Now add a light to add shading.

In the vector paint tool there are jitter settings…try playing around with those.

Are they always in the same place ???? If so, I would use the clone paint tool. very quick and very easy. If not, you could make a duplicate of the footage, offset it very slighty in position from the original place it bleow the original in the stacking order, then apply a chroma key to the original. Choose the green of the spot, make it very limited as far as tolerance (you don’t want other things keying) and adjust to taste. My preferred method would be the first one offered.

Are the layers 3d and is there a light ??? Sounds like a shadow.
Also. for the interlacing, are you rendering out fields and innterpreting these fields in your NLE ????? For the previews, computer monitors don’t handle interlacing very well.

I like to use the color labels to help keep things a little in order. Also shy layers can help to reduce the clutter when working. As Aharon said, nested comps can help, but sometimes it is not practical. Having folders would be very cool.

What changes since you last used it…..did you update drivers of a video card or the like ????? I would try and figure that one out….After that I would try and resolve that issue…as a last ressort I would re-install.

I can’t give you advice on planning, but if I can give you one piece of advice, it’s to keep things clean. Take the few extra seconds to create folders in your project window to keep elements clean and organized. Take the time to name comps, or add layer markers with names and/or descriptions. When the project starts to get big, you will be happy that you took that time.

The preference file is in a hidden folder on a PC, you have to activate hidden folder view (tools-folder options-view-show hidden folder)
The preferences are located in C-documents and settings-your username-application data-Adobe-After Effects(will be accompanied by a version number)
Delete the After Effects folder. Once you have a good set of preferences, simply copy the After Effects folder that I described above to another location on your PC…..that way when After Effects starts to act a little crazy, you can just bring that folder back in to replace the corrupted one, without losing templates etc.

If you open the clip in quicktime, and then check the movie properties, does it list PAL ????
The prefs are in a hidden folder, so you have to open the C:drive, click on tools then folder options, then view, then show hidden files and folders and then aaply. Close this window, then go to:
c: documents and settings-username-application data-adobe….in there will be a folder for After Effects 7.0. Delete the folder.Mark

If it is a rendered clip, then right click in project window on clip, choose interpret footage main and then at the bottom of the window enter the number of loops that you need.
