There is a button in the AE timeline called continually rasterize…it looks like a little star. Click on it and behold, lovely clean EPS 🙂 THis button does many functions, such as conserving 3d space from a comp, collapsing transformations. It is a very important button, one that I would suggest reading about in the help file.

You will not hear audio if you hit space bar. If you do a ram preview you should hear it.

When you make a movie, you have select that you want audio to be included.

    The easiest way :

Create a new solid black layer…make it the same size as your comp. Close the visibility. Create a new circular mask using the oval mask tool the size you need the reveal to be. Turn on the visibility. Set the mask to substract. Adjust the opacity of the black layer to your liking. Now keyframe the mask shape and adjust the position of the mask.

I think that I would have created a still for each window. Not an alpha, but rather a matte (black and white image). In your seperate comps, you can then select to use the luma levels of the stills as track mattes for your fills.

October 23, 2006 at 11:14 am in reply to: Dynamic link problem

I have used the dynamic link a lot with Encore with no problems.

I have played around with Premiere and AE using the dynamic link and have not seen this issue.

One thing to check is that all colours are in the safe broadcast zone. After Effects uses the RGB color space whilst Premiere uses the YUV color space. It is possible that something is going wrong in the conversion.

I’ve never seen this personally…. Have you tried making your solid bigger than the comp ???

Also, what are your render settings ??? Are you rendering fields, full quality etc…

October 23, 2006 at 11:07 am in reply to: RAID-0 or other setup for speed AND data safety?

I use RAID 0. I have 4 x 300GB striped in a RAID 0 config. My backup for media is the tapes that I always keep. For my projects, they go to my c: drive which is a 74GB 10k RPM drive.I back up the projects on the C drive every project.

Renders go to the RAID. I don’t back them up as I can easily re-render.

RAID 0 is not the safest method as your IT guy pointed out, but for me speed was the key. There are other RAID options out there. If you want to be really sure, then I would suggest reading some IT sites about RAID configs. I would also suggest getting a USB drive and backing up to there. Data transfer speeds of USB 2.0 are great, so backing up a project whilst working on it is quick and rather painless.

    David,

Great idea. I had tried this in the past using a page turn (it was for a falling photo), but the cylinder sounds way cooler.

Ther must be an expression to do this, but unfortunately I am very basic with expressions.

I would probably use the motion sketch command, along with the smoother, and then play around with the temporal interpolation to get the look I wanted.

You will probably want to animate the rotation properties in 3d to match the motion path.

Now add a light to add shading.
