Create your new layer, make sure it is comp size, Now take the pen tool and start drawing. You will want to drag the bezier points to get the look like in the example. Make sure you close the mask, otherwise it will be just a path. To close it, make sure that the last point is the same as the first point.

    Hope this helps

AS far as I know it is still called grid. I believe it is located in the generate category. I say I believe, as I access my filter using the effects and presets window….try opening this window and doing a search for Grid.

I would try a test render and see how the image looks. I find that often what I see in a ram preview and final render can differ.

Go with Steve’s idea, but to this I would add a white solid layer. Apply an oval mask and set the mask to subtract. Add a feather to the mask.
Next, set the white layer’s transfer mode to add or screen.
Add the turbulent displacement filter, adjust the properties to taste and animate. This will give you a nice organic mask.
Duplicate the white layer and close visibility of lower of two.
On the top white layer bring the transparency down (maybe around 40-50).
Create a new adjustement layer and add gaussian blur and set to around 15 (adjust to taste). Drop this layer between the two white layers in the timeline.
Set the adjustement layer to use the white layer as a track matte.

For the turbulent displace, you will want to play around with: the amount, the size and the complexity. You will animate the evolution.

    Hope this helps

You are not clicking on the camera’s position in the timeline are you ? This would cause all keyframes to be highlighted and as such be affected by any movement you make.

  • Leave it progressive and introduce the fields in the render. Should be fine.

Apply the tracking data to the Y axis only. You do not want to pin the X as that is your camera move. Also, if your tracker point leaves the screen for a prolonged period of time, you can stop the tracker and apply a new one.

I personally like the lights from BCC4. They are very cool and come with many presets. I like the fact that I have full control over the noise inside the light.

If you import as footage a layered PSD file, then in the next window you can select the layer you want and the footage dimensions. Hopefully this gets you where you need to go 🙂
