You would have to use expression for this.

I am not all that versed in Expressions, so unfortunatly I will not be giving you the exact syntax that you will need, that said, if you set up your 3 nulls, then alt-click the position of the camera and set it one null, you should be able to figure it out by reading the formula and making the necessary adjustements.

I think that cutting to the beat is most effective when it is unpredictable, as other posters pointed out.

I cut sports promos. When i first started cutting sports promos, everythin went to the beat. It got boring real fast. I like to cut on a big beat, but then use the underlying beats to break it up. I will also use a big drum crash or the like for an action, such as a hockey hit. I also like to leave some room for sound design. Sometimes I will listen to the music and place the sound (again hockey hit as an example) and use the natural sound as an offbeat. This allows me to make the action more enjoyable and less predictable.

Cutting to lyrics is hard, if the material is not portraying the lyrics.

I really like to use jump cuts, freeze frames, flashes, and small DVE moves (cuts that may have a zoom applied) to bring the spot to a more musical level.

Paint does not bring up the windows you mentionned, vector paint usually does….I am only asking to make sure that you are applying vector paint and not the regular paint. Please do not think that this question is being ignorant towards you, it really is not my intention 🙂

When you apply vector paint to a layer, the vector paint pallettes come up on the left of the comp window. If they do not (not sure why they wouldn’t), try clicking on the layer in the timeline, hitting F3, then clicking on the vector paint header in the effects control window.

If this does not work, have you tried deleting your preferences ? When something is not working right for me, this is usually the fix.

I would say that it would be quite a bit of work, but I would think that it could definatly be done in AE. The layers seem to be all 2d (I watched it on youtube and comression was terrible) but place in 3d space. The band members have been rotoed and then their layers have been set to auto orient to the camera. The rest of the elements are 2d layers placed in 3d with a camera. I am not sure if ALL elements will have been created in AE, but the compositing seems to be highly doable in AE.

Pretty cool video…not a fan of the tune, but pretty cool video.

What is your host editing syste, (where are the slo-mos coming from and where is the final going?) Are the image blurry and freaky only inside AE, or when you go to output. Also, what CODEC are you using to get out of AE.
