Steve, I don’t have Blue as my graphics card won’t support it, but with Red, I always found that the best way is to create a movie track and then go find the movie ob your hard drive. I have had issues like yours in the past when my graphics card was having a hard time dealing with OPENGL. Make sure that your card is up to date and passes all opengl tests.

Just and idea…..but what if you create the animation, then precomp. Now in use the auto trace command and apply the stroke to this….I am not sure if this would work, but if it were me I would be looking at this option. There must be an expression that exists, and probably someone way smarter than me will offer it 🙂

Try pickwhipping the scale paramter to the radius paramter of CC Sphere and it should work…

For vignettes, I like to have them animated……

I like to create a solid, add an oval mask, feather the mask, then I like to add the turbulent displace to the solid layer. You will have to tweak the filter’s parameters to get you movement to your liking.

I like to use this layer as a track matte for a duplication of my underlying video, adding blur to the underlying video. I then set the original solid to a mode, depending on the color of the solid.

Trial and error means basically adjusting parameters until you get the look you want. An example is a treatment of video. Due to the neature of video, each shot can look different, therefore the instructor can give a base of what to do, but he/she will refer to trial and error menaing that you need to play with a parameter to get the look that you desire.

Yes, this is possible. I usually control drag the timeline so that it is not part of the others, and do the same with my comp monitor….there is an easier way using menus, to be honest I gave up on that 😉

I agree 100% with your statement. Quality has depreciated in many areas. I look at Satellite tv. The pixels drive me crazy. The amount of video being put on a single transponder up in space is astonishing. Back when one channel occupied one transponder (C-Band, one horizontal, one vertical), they are now putting upwards of 12 channels on that same space.

We all want HD now, but is what the consumer seeing true HD ??? It is so compressed, that artifacts become unbearable, especially around graphics.

I remember when DV video was deemed unacceptable by broadcasters. Some still won’t accept it, but a lot of braodcasters will. Why wouldn’t they, they know that by the time the consumer sees it, chances are that has been so heavily compressed that the difference would be negligble.

I’m not sure how we will look back at this era, but I am hoping that video quality will have improved to a point where we can look at todays video and laugh at how pitiful it looked. There again, maybe I just have the wrong provider 😉

This would all depend on the size of the set-up you are planning on having, it would also depend on the type of footage you are going to be using SD/HD..

More info is definatly necessary to better help you.

Also when you say backup, that also depends on a number of things and choices as to what is backed up…..EX: backing up media when the media resides on tape, backing up renders when they can be easily re-built.

Render farms……They are not always needed, bit of course it depends on the nature of your work. A fast machine rendering overnight can be a better investement.

Bottom line, you still need to know how to cut to make one of those things work…

It’s not so much the tools, as the artist behind them.

I like to work with a Wacom tablet, I hate the mouse….would I like a touch screen ??? Possibly, it would at least give me some exercise rather than sitting on my whilst editing. When I used to edit on tape, people used to laugh because I used to edit standing up. I was way more comfortable. Because I share this room with other editors I have a plain edit desk, but I would love to have everything set up on a drafting table so that I could edit standing up. A flat panel touch screen would enable me to do this.
