    Greg,
Letme see if I could help a fellow artist (Don’t feel bad.. I’m with you… technology should not get in the way of what we create).

    How do I/O cards work?
Simple. They are responsible to get video in and out of your editing system. Now, depending on what you are ingesting from SDI, component, composite, SD, HD, 2K, 4K you have various choices to pick from. Some help with scaling your SD to HD in realtime or HD to SD, some have color calibration utilities that help when trying to make sure what you see is “true”.

`Basically the less cords i have to deal with and the less money I have to spend the better`
I have a Matrox MXO2 that allows me to get almost everythin in and out of my system, it has color calibration tools and it is a breakout box. No messsing with a bunch of cables. It`s about $1600, if that more than what you need or want to spend they have a baby brother of the MXO2… MXO2 Mini https://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2_mini/
I think that goes for something likd $450. Doesn`t have all the inputs and outputs of the MXO2 … but might do the trick for you.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cory,

I had the same issue with Compressor, then I heard about the Matrox CompressHD… not only does it SOLVE the GAMMA shift problem!! but it also speeds up the h.264 encoding.. the time I’m saving with this device is translating into more $$.

    check it out:

    Kai,
Maybe you can`t get the Matrox MXO2… BUT they just announced the MXO2 LE… and if $995 is still out of your price range go for the MXO2 Mini @$450 it could drive an HDMI monitor and you get their calibaration tools.
I have an MXO2 and I punp it`s HDMI to the Sharp Aquos for monitoring and I love the quality.

    Allby,
    MBP or MP?
If you are like me that started with a MacPro then added a MacBookPro the Matrox MXO2 is the only way to go.
I don’t know what you need as I/O but the MXO2 is sure to have everything you are looking for…
The MXO2 has been great, the Matrox support team was fantastic (I needed to call them to find out my problem was between the keyboard and my chair 🙂

    Rick,
I am very happy with my MXO2, just recently picked up a MBP and they rock together.

BTW, read this… “editing out of a bag”

    Hope this helps.

    Rob,
After weeks of research and plunked down the money for the Matrox compressHD. I had a Matrox MXO2 working with my MacPro… so I was covered when it came to input and output, all I needed was a fast way to make my deliveries….Boy did the CompressHD over deliver! I saw the hype, I read the posts about how fast it was. There was video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErU-cs1S0Kw that helped me along… but nothing is better than the real thing. This thing rocks…

  • Rich,
Thanks for your input. From what I gather Episode would take all(most)of my systems power to do the same job the compressHD + Compressor would do. I am I right? If so, why would I spend $495 on Episode and have it hog my system while the Matrox compressHD ($495) would do the heavy lifting so I can continue creating other projects?
Am I missing something or can you combine the power of CompressHD with Episode?

    No…That’s GREAT support.
I’ve been telling others on other posts just how great I think the Matrox tech guys are… I’m glad others have seen it as well.

    Dave,
I actually called Matrox today to ask whether my MXO2 would work with their CompressHD and of obviously it does… what is interesting the tech support guy I spoke with also told me that they have tested it with KONA3 and it works… I imagine it would with the LHi as well…maybe they have to wait until AJA sends them an LHi to test to before they can confirm 🙂
