I’m trying to use my HVX200 as an intermediate (converter) to view my DVCPro HD 720 footage on a normal tv through the view playback option in FCP using firewire from computer to camera and then composite cables from camera output to tv input……is this possible or do I have to get a capture card and go that route?
With standard DV NTSC footage using my camera as a link between my computer and an external monitor (tv) is no problem and I thought that the HVX200 would do the HD to SD conversion in camera with 720 footage as well………maybe not.

One of the big drawbacks to the HVX-200 was that it couldn’t do playthrough to an external monitor. You can play back the footage to the camera, and see it on the small monitor, and record that…but you can’t then route that thru component or composite to a monitor. HD only…SD you could. I believe that was because of the small 4-pin connector on the camera. The HPX-170 has a full sized firewire connection, and allows for this.

So, in order for me to view this HD footage on an external monitor will I have to get a capture card or deck?……or is there a cheaper workaround solution?
    Thanks for the quick response.

[Robert Waldrep] “will I have to get a capture card or deck?”

    Yes.

[Robert Waldrep] “or is there a cheaper workaround solution? “

Matrox MXO2 Mini is $495. Decklink Intensity Pro is $300. AJA IO Express is $495.

    Shane,
    I think you are mistaken:
    MXO2Mini $495
    Intensity $199
    AJA IO Express $995

AH…I am wrong…I thought the IO Express was cheaper. And I forgot that the Intensity lowered the price.
