Hi.
I’d edit in uncompressed or prorez(mjpg) etc and capture through SDI.
This is how i use it 🙂
Other way would be to convert files to prorez(mjpg) if you plan to transfere xdcam native files from the deck trough gigabit net.
There is different ways to do it.
I do not know your needs and your ability to work with different formated files.—

Maybe it heats up too much etc. conditions change over weekend.

I just got pro and have not used hdmi today but probably you have something going on with your routing or settings.
Do you have looked at control panel (system prfferences) for processing etc. Another thing is if your timeline output etc settings mach.
Try to go with it step by step.

I think you have mistaken here. XLR’s are balanced.
Neutriks makes connectors, it does not determine balanced/unbalanced. Unbalanced is only RCA.>paid 70% more for the AJA, which didn’t up convert like the MBP. >Up convert quality from the limited tests I’ve done seems to be >fine.
I have used down convert with HD and looked material on regular SD tv. Picture was supreme and material was still in hd and edited in hd.

I’d use Prorez all the way.
It takes about 80 gigs an hour roughly if i do not mistake.
So on TB you would have 10 hours or a bit bore roughly.
You will have all a your material online so to say and
no recapture. Drives and arrays are so low cost now days that i see no point for recapturing.—
