this may seem like a small thing to most but it’s a TOTAL PIA to me.
Please tell me they finally fixed the way the audio waveform works in the timeline. It is SOOOO slow to render and then everytime you expand, contract or move the timeline it has to re-render. COMPLETELY slows down an edit to the point I don’t even want to use it…but sometimes you really need it….
UGH!

Thanks Shane…GEE I thought I tried this as it is an old apple OS command and it didn’t work but…..it did….
Yes I have the original files backed up on 2 different HDs. this drive is my traveling edit drive so I needed the extra space….
thanks again, since my brain had a sector error!

wow, we certainly came back around to tape quickly…LOL
for archive you CAN’T beat the price of tape AND storage area size too…
have you thought about getting an inexpensive dv deck of some sort and just laying footage back to tape?
takes more time yes, saves TONS of money though in the long run.

Do you know the “special” key commands to delete the P2 media AFTER you’re done with the project?
Thay all come up as protected and undeleteable…..used to be able to do this holding the shift button down while emptying trash…..
thanks!

incidentally, having run FCP and Leopard very successfully on my laptop, I have no real qualms now about a Mac Pro that will probably have to run Leopard. Onwards! Maybe the FCP upgrade will include multicore support in FCP (yeah, right).
Ben,
which version of FCP are you running on Leopard on your laptop?see my post for my question also.
want to run my FCP5.1.4 on a new leopard os laptop….possible…compatible?

I would pretty much agree with everything Mr.Poison said.
I DO like the way you try to build tension with the edits and the great music you chose.
However, the single most thing that hurts this project is the narrator.
not in the least believable and VERY amature…Keep cutting!

I guess I could do that! the thing is the composit out looks like crap and the Y/C looks acceptable to me. I’m rally picky so I may just be overly bashing the situation. My work around has been rendering uncompressed and going down the road to a small boutique that has FCP and a black magic carc to output to Beta.
I’m just used to After Effects and perfect looking titles……
I’m on the east coast for a few days shooting so send me an email and I’ll get a couple stills to you. I’m using a 14″ sony HiRez monitor so I know I can trust it.
Thanks a ton, COW is a GREAT place to be!!

Thanks for the post Le Cyote, Super Genius! and all the other great folks who replied in my dire hour of need!
I’m finding from the Apple forum that DV just sucks for text and titles. None of the “even X/Y integer placement” tricks made a difference in the way the text looked.
disapointing to say the least. I never had this trouble working on a media100 dv machine (don’t have access to that anymore, that’s why I bought the G5 & FCP!!)
Client wants no blur, no outline or anything…..just my luck!
there is a bit of contrast white text @ 80% or so on a dark green background with lighting effects to give it a soft blur. That looks great, the text sucks. I think I just going to have to render uncompressed and go somewhere that can handle that with their capture card to dump it out to beta. Well, I get to pay someone 100.00 an hour now! Good thing they are only 3/30 second spots!
I’ll keep looking for info on this.

Thanks Sean,
Yes, I’m looking at the composite output from a Sony DSR 40 deck, Sony 14″ trinitron monitor.
My Y/C cable is on the fritz as they get sometimes, can’t see the chroma. It looks a little cleaner but I can still see some “artifacting” around the text. I wouldn’t worry so much if this wasn’t going to be broadcast.
Have to master tomorrow so tic toc….
