I have been using Plural Eyes for a while, love it. As long as you can hear the scratch track in camera, you are set. I like the walke technique! Have not needed to sync from a long distance yet, but that would be a great tip.

That’s an upgrade!
Still trying to install it, I had the VP12 Beta installed, went on location for a month and it expired, devil of a time to uninstall it, something was corrupted and had to manually delete everything with help from the local guru.
Now VP12 will not install no matter what I have tried, no help from sony yet. Went through all of the “clean” uninstall/install procedures, no luck.
Ugh, computers!

Useful thread, thanks’! I’m installing VP12 now. BTW, I recently finished reading “Vegas Pro 11 Editing Workshop” excellent manual for using Vegas Pro. How different is 12 from 11? is there a list of “upgrades” and instructions?
Cheers,

August 12, 2012 at 1:09 am in reply to: PluralEyes + Vegas => Ways of working with the synced video+audioI sync with plural eyes, and create a “synchmaster Veg” then drop it into my “editmaster” veg as a “clip” now the audio is “in synch” and I can create subclips or do whatever I want with the clip. No trouble to render out any size file.
Work’s for me so far.

I bought the 7D when it came out (didn’t want the vista-vision sized sensor of the 5DII) I just bought a 60D and would buy 2 60D’s at this point if I did not already own the 7D. Magic Lanern is worth buying the 60D over the 7D, even thought the 7D is a “better built camera” so what, it will be functionally obsolete before I wear it out!
Don’t show up on a “paying job” with just one body. I’m shooting dual cameras now, as the “zoom” capability of the Canon lenses is not anything like a TV or Cinema lens, I use them as “variable primes” and shoot a CU & MS at the same time for cutting.
My $0.02

I have the H4, not (n) model, the recorder does not have high gain on the inputs, if your signal is too low you have to use a preamp.
If you use a preamp, don’t leave the gain levels at 100%, 50~75 is enough, use the preamp for the rest, on the zoom products, unlike the Tascam, adjusting audio on the fly is a pain, the preamp gives you a rotary pot which is very convenient.

Just saw a notice that there may be a software update for the 7D that will enable audio control! I hope it’s true.

June 1, 2012 at 12:15 am in reply to: Cost of Advertising – Production and On Air-TimeI cannot run a “profitable” business competing with $200 productions, that is a joke, and not a very funny one. The “Ad buy” is irrelevant to me, the production budget is the only thing I can work with. If someone want’s a cheap commercial, fine, but I will still make a profit on it, if not I pass on the “job” otherwise I am subsidizing someone else s business and lifestyle, and I am not too interested in that. I am very happy to tell a “client” (prospect) to shop elsewhere, I will not loose money on their job, just because they need it.
