How many people do you want to record at the same time?
Are you locked off on a tripod or going hand held?
Do you have the budget for wireless or only wired mics, do you want to purchase or rent?
Are you working alone or with someone who can handle a mic & boom?If you have two tracks, use both of them! Always use different mics as something can always happen to one of them and you may not catch it in the field.

I use a Bella DVkeyboard and a presonus fader pro. I like them, but I started editing on VTR’s with a RM-440, ancient tech now.

I thought working with multiple tracks would be an advantage as well, but after using one fader for a few months and with the ease of switching between tracks, on screen and with the faderport, it’s not an issue for me. My mixes are under 8 tracks.

Panasonic gh2/3; Canon 5DIII, or you can hack a cable and run MagicLantern and get audio out of the USB/AV port on canon cameras. I have a 60d and ML with the AV cable, supplied by Canon, I have audio out for FREE. Well almost free, I had to buy an RCA to 3.5mm adapter at radio shack.

I have the Bella DV Keyboard for VP; love it! jog shuttle wheel and dedicated punch in /out buttons just above it. I like the dedicated symbols on the keys to remind me of shortcuts. Need little LED lamp, and a few usb ports so I can plug in my trackball and PreSonus faderport into the keyboard direct. I like it a lot.

Too bad about the Quadro 2000 review, I am looking for a card under $400, so the 4000 is out for me, are the GTX600 series cards worth it? I have a 200 series now, works, choppy playback so that’s why I want to upgrade.

Buying gear is always an issue of price/performance, I bought my first camera and lenses before the GH2, so Canon was the obvious pick for me. Today, with the new lenses offered by Panasonic, and the great performance of the GH2 and now the GH3, I would seriously consider it. Higher bit rate, longer record times, good image, no mirror, ability to mount PL glass, Leica M & R glass, virtually any SLR glass, and in crop mode, 16mm film zoom lenses and primes C-mount, a lot of capability for around $1k. If Panasonic get’s their act together and takes the M4/3 mount seriously with a good camcorder, AF200? that actually is 10 bit, and not just “simulated” then the M4/3 system woudld be a good kit. Sony seems to be on this path with the E-mount, they are developing cameras and camcorders so all take the same mount, a very good idea.

I’m looking to “upgrade” my card as well, looking at the Quadro 2000. Anyone have experience with this card and VP 11/12? John Roffano uses a Quadro card, I think the 4000, but the 2000 is more in my price bracket $400. The 4000 is $800.
Next step is a 10 bit monitor, so I’m only interested in 10 bit cards now.

Look at the Panasonic GH3, they also introduced fast f2.8 constant aperture zooms to complement this camera, at this point in time, I own a Canon 60D & 7D, I would seriously consider the Panasonic for HD video, but I have a lot of money tied up in glass…so I’m staying with Canon bodies till a working powered adapter is available like the Metabones for EOS to E mount, When that’s available in EOS to M4/3 I’ll be getting a GH3.

I always carry “unprofessional” plastic bags and tape, as well as a dedicated rain cover for the camera. For some reason I have to replace the bags a lot, and the rain-cover is still in its case.
