Getting Behringer BCF2000 fader control to work with VP11
Posted by Malcolm Matusky on October 23, 2012 at 11:30 pmAnyone using this device? I got it to partly work, now it does not, strange. I am getting midi/in/out set to the device, but still not working.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Malcolm

October 24, 2012 at 5:15 amI have the same unit, with the same results. Didn’t get a lot of help from Behringer either. HAve you downloaded and installed the latest 64 bit usb driver etc? The web site leaves a bit to be explained. There is a white paper explaining the setup, but obviously I must have read it upside down.
All that said… it would be good to compare notes, and now I have seen your posting, I will have another go on VP12.

October 24, 2012 at 5:06 pmAfter an entire day of trying to get the damned thing to work, I came “alive” after I deleted the driver, and just plugged it in to let windows “find” the driver off the internet. ( I read that in a post on ?? forum I was trolling yesterday in desperation) Now it’s not writing points on the waveform, but it is changing the volume? this is quite bizarre.
VP12, that’s another issue, I cannot get it to load on my machine no matter what I do. I was part of the VP12 beta program and that software corrupted my OS and now I have to rebuild my system on another drive.
What fun!
I’ll post again if I get the BCF2000 working.

October 24, 2012 at 6:06 pmWhen I turned on the system this morning, the BCF2000 still seems to work, faders move and control levels, but I cannot make the thing write points on the volume time line.
I’m now looking at the presnus faderport, it has positive and negative reviews as well. It only has one fader, but if it works, it will be far better than 8 faders that don’t !
Anyone have a tip how to get the “write” function working? I have it selected, but it’s non-functional.
I’m going to try uninstalling the driver, again to see if this function clears up.

October 24, 2012 at 6:35 pm“Downshift-edit” that sequence of buttons on the BCF2000 gets the automation working. What a nightmare! I had to find a template from VP8 on Sony’s website to get that info.
After using the device for a while, it’s not worth it! Too crude to make decent adjustments to the audio on the timeline. I think I’ll send it back and try the presonus faderport (should be supported as it’s listed as hardware within the menu for midi) it only has one fader, but higher resolution of points. I can live with that, I need something that is USEFUL, not with a lot of buttons that don’t work well, as the BCF2000 has a very hard time making a smooth transition and when you try to go over the work again, it fights your fingers, but the real issue is that the second pass is much worse than the first. The resulting “fade” has too many spikes to be useful.

October 25, 2012 at 12:51 amI get the feeling I should have bought a Mackie at the outset. Pity.. the unit looks good on the edit desk and the moving faders would keep the clients amused. 🙂

October 25, 2012 at 3:13 amI decided to return it, even though I got it “working” it is too crude for what I want. I ordered a single fader Presonus faderport. I saw Sony bundles this unit with closed caption software for vegas, I’m hoping the interface is better supported and the single fader is higher quality. The Mackie is a better option, but at $1100 I’l experiment with the lesser options, I only want a decent fader, all the other switches the BCF2000 has are wasted on me.
I’ll follow up next week when I have the faderport installed and working.

November 6, 2012 at 6:46 pmThe PreSonus Faderport is up and running, for me, an excellent device!
It took a bit of searching for the right driver to get it working (win7/64 VP11) I found a link to an additional installer which enabled the fader to actually move, otherwise it was working fine with the standard driver.
The fader itself is very smooth and writes a lot of points, be sure to have “smooth and thin automation” selected otherwise you will have a huge amount of keyframes.
I found a few negative comments about the rotary pan knob, not an issue as the “Proj” key is mapped to switch the linear fader to pan function. A non-issue.
Transport controls all work as they should, nice interface and sits right next to my keyboard, much better for me than the 8 track unit that had to be far from the keyboard on my desk. I should have started with this unit.

November 9, 2012 at 8:56 pmThe “PreSonus Fader Port” is the device to get for the price. Works great, single fader, very smooth (I’m sooo analogue) plenty of buttons and sits next to my keyboard without issue of being too big. Took a while to configure for win7/64 VP11, but I found an alternate installer and it now works perfectly. Much easier to write points on the envelope for volume and panning, should have bought one years ago.

February 4, 2013 at 4:55 amI continued with my battle with the BCF2000, and finally got the thing to work. Apart from the white paper from Sony, thee isn’t a lot of info about what the controls do or what combinations of buttons do etc, but careful re-reading is making sense. I am at a disadvantage in that I am not a Midi geek. The Faderport is probably better.. and I am thinking of buying one… but the reason why I persist with the Behringer is I want to work 3 or 4 audio tracks on the same pass.
