I would be interested in that as well. If I upgrade to V6, it will only be because I like this feature in DVDA3
Edward Troxel mentions this in passing in his last news letter. Perhaps Edward could provide a more detailed tutorial in next issue with some hints on maximising disk space

Ok I have got my missing audio plug-ins (Track noise gate, track equaliser and track compressor, back.
Apparantly V5.0b does not register these plug-ins. After several attempts at uninstall/reinstall and running migration tools (register Sony direct X plug-ins) I gave up.

Then I installed V5.0d and the plugins were restored.
So after deleting shared plugins directory, I reinstalled V5.0b. This gave me my missing plug-ins.

I had a go at doing clean install of V5 after deleting Sony folder. Still EQ and Compressor plug-ins missing.
Any other ideas anyone?

That is strange Edward. I did uninstall/reinstall ( not today ). As I mentioned above, I deleted the shared plug-ins folder but did not delete the V5 folder as I wanted to keep the scripts, including Excalibur intact.
I shall try deleting the V5 folder, after moving the scripts, before reinstall. Bit incovinient at the moment as I am in the middle of a project.
This uninstall/reinstall routine is becoming a habit:)

That is what I had done. I deleted the shared plug-ins before reinstalling. The reason being, V5.0d has problem rendering MPEG2 on my w2k systems.

I shall have another go this evening.

That’s true, the “>” symbol is automatically removed as the other markers are deleted. Maybe that should be optional???

Only yesterday, Edward suggested the above and today he tells me ‘It’s Done’.

That is what I would normally for cutaways ( although I do it on time line).
I was thinking more of 2 or more continuous streams of video, such as a conference, where I would play the time line, placing markers and then using Excalibur to assemble camera selections.
Now let say I have selected cam-1 but notice an interesting segment on cam-2. It would be nice to put a place holder there. I could
1-open cam-2 clip in trimmer and make sub clip – as Timothy suggested.
2-Place a comment marker as Edward suggested.

Both suggestions are good.
Edward volunteering to make removal of ‘>’ symbol is even better:)

I presume one would only need to remove the ‘>’ before rendering to MPEG2 for chapter points.

Ohh, that remids me, must order the upgrade to 4.0!!

Splitting the clip becomes messy if there are 4 or more camera tracks and associated audio tracks.
I like the idea of opening in the trimmer and making sub clips. I have not really explored the use use of sub clips yet.

I have, on occassions, used ‘comment’ markers to mark posible start point of usable clips. My trouble is, I run excalibur to assemble small portions at a time. So first time I run Excalibur, the comment markers are saved but ‘>’ removed. So next time I run the script, the markers are removed.

I use win2k (sp4) on 2 machines. I am experiencing one rendering problem. I can not render to MPEG2 PAL using CBR. The thing crashes at around 200Mb.
As this problem manifests itself in V5.0d and V6.0a, it may not affect you if it does not show up in V5.0d. Again, if you do not render MPEG2 using CBR then this problem is not relevant.

The installation of 6.0a on a very clean machine was faultless. Unfortunately, I have not used 6.0a apart from testing the render options so I can not advise on other aspects.
