    Hi,
I am looking for ideas on using multi-angles. I have created a second angle of my video and it’s the full length as the first. Many of the clips in the 2nd angle are the same as the first, but not all.

This works fine but due to the length this process results in lower bitrate. I would prefer to just use the clips that are different than the first in the second angle, but I can’t think of an easy way to do that…

    a) just render the 2nd angle clips separately in Vegas and then match them up individually at the exact frame in DVDA-3?
    b) create the entire second angle video the same length and drop it in dvda-3 then “cut” the clips that are identical to the first angle out (within dvda-3)?

These seem like an awful lot of effort which I’d like to avoid, but I would like to get the benefit of highest bit-rate! Ideas appreciated, thanks.

I would be interested in that as well. If I upgrade to V6, it will only be because I like this feature in DVDA3
Edward Troxel mentions this in passing in his last news letter. Perhaps Edward could provide a more detailed tutorial in next issue with some hints on maximising disk space

If you’re going to run it the entire length of the video, you’d probably be better off (especially effort-wise) just letting it run the entire length. I recommend only using multi-angles in small sections. For example, the multi-angle DVD I made only consisted of a small 2 minute section.

One big key when using multi-angles is to render everything as DV-AVI. To make sure everything aligned correctly, I placed a chapter point where the multi-angle was starting. That made it easy to align the pieces in DVDA because I simply needed to start the other angles at that chapter point.

When you lay down this “second” angle, do you also have to lay down the audio for that “second” clip or does DVDA build the DVD so it is using the audio from the 1st clip?

Yes the audio from the first video stream is used.
Not sure how to say this but the audio streams are independent of the video. You can put more than one audio stream in and the one that plays is as selected by the user with their remote control (for different languages, commentary etc.). And the video stream is chosen separately (angles).

Agreed – video only. If you added a separate audio stream, now you have multiple audio channels (similar to english vs spanish vs commentary audio tracks).

So then if I wanted to say create a directors comments for some highlight videos only, how do I create a menu button for those comments? Or does it just go to the audio button on your remote?

You can create a menu button allowing them to select which audio track they wish to listen to.
