I second that.
Peter has very genourously tested my DVDA file by burning to a DVD-RW and his expert opinion is that DVDA3 anti flicker filter is a good thing.

Just installed V6.0a (b99).
The MPEG2 render at CBR crashes at 200Mb (6,500 frames ). MPEG2 render using VBR works fine. Same effect as I get with 5.0d.

“While Vegas is not running delete C:Program FilesSonyShared Plug-Ins, and then reinstall Vegas. Now are you able to render to MPEG again?

I was hoping that would cure my problems with MPEG2-CBR render but it that is not to be.
I uninstalled V5.0d. Deleted the shared plug-ins folder. Also uninstalled DVDA2 for good measure.

MPEG2 render (CBR) stops at around 200Mb with indeteminate error.

What I did notice was that the W2k registry still had the Mainconcept entry after unistall of V5.0d and DVDA2.

Here, perhaps Edward Troxel can help.

The registry entry is

Currentkey: xxxxx etc. 3P9VDII
INSTFLAGS: REG_DWORD: 0X10
KEY1: Xxxxx etc. 3P9VD
The last 2 charcters in line 1 are not I,i or 1 but a bold vertical character.
Looking at the V4 registry entry, which works fine with MPEG2, is similar to V5 entry but first line is
Currentkey: xxxxx etc. 3P9VDIZ

What do you think Edward?

I have not really used DVDA2 since I got it last year. I shall have a go at replicating one of my menus from DVD Workshop.

If you send the DVDA3 .dar file to me with any media, I’ll have a go at burning it and send you a screen shot.
Thank you Peter for your very kind offer. I am just wondering whether the screen shot will reveal the flicker seen on PAL TV.

Peter, I normally use text only on my menus. For stage shows I may have 2 columns with 10 rows for scene selections. This is where the interlace flicker on DVDA2 becomes unacceptable. I have stuck to DVD workshop because its flicker filter sems to be very effective.

Talking about text only menus, I have not found a way (may be I have not looked hard enough) to use text only in DVDA. Perhaps you can guide me to appropriate place in the manual.

DVDA2 doesn’t have as many encoding options as Vegas, particularly 2 pass encoding, but I see DVDA3 has Interlace Flicker removal.

I downloaded the DVDA3 trial.Ofcourse I could not burn a trial project to see if the menu text improves with the anti flicker filter.
I did burn the demo video_ts file and text looks good. It is a large chunky font.
Is there any way I could burn a dummy menu with some text on it, to DVD?

Thanks Peter. Anti interlace filter will definitely encourage me to test out DVDA3.

As I mentioned, V5.0d DOES render MPEG2 in VBR. It crashes if CBR is selected.
I suspect DVDA2 uses VBR. I dragged a 7GB file in the menu window and set the bit rate at 6Mb/s. It’s still rendering and I suspect it will render to the end.

That’s an interesting thought Peter.
I do not use DVDA2 and prefer to use DVD Workshop. This is purely personal and subjective assessment but I find interlace flicker on menu-text unacceptable. DVDW has anti interlace flicker filter which works well.

I just fired up DVDA and it’s rendering a 7 GB file. I can not find an option to specify CBR/VBR encoding.
Is there one?
