    Thanks for the encouragement Steph.
I have not worked out how to do multiples. This would present oprblems with button labels ( as Edward says ) but I shall have a go once I get the feel of the device.
It’s great having S for split on this without reverting to Key board.

    Thanks Edward.
I just had a short spell of edit and trying to use CSP. I am beginning to think that anything I can click with the mouse should be left well alone. I am sure it will be weeks before I will get my short cuts sorted but in the meantime I love the jog shuttle.

Thanks Peter. Got the veg file.
I shall have to look at Acid. I am sure it’s fun if one knows how to get started.

I am about to start on a training video on ‘Physical Exercise’ aimed at health profrssionals. We are still at scripting stage and do not start actual filming until March but would love to have the veggies of the heartbeat effect. Somewhere in the script we have to look at cardio-vascular work-out.

I was thinking of using Acid to produce short pieces to go with various types of exercises: jogging, line dancing, gardening etc etc. and use heartbeat rhythm.

    Bearing in mind that
1- I have never used Acid
    2 – I know nothing about music

Do you think that’s a good idea?

  • Error messages you get when you print to tape suggests that Vegas does not recognise the camera.
A simple cause may be that the project is not set to PAL. I am sure you have checked this but
please check File>properties ans see that project is set to PAL. The other place to check is Options>preferences>videodevice is set to PAL DV.
I find that sometimes I have to switch between PAL DV – PAL DV wide screen>apply a few times to get Vegas to switch to ext monitor.

If the above does not work, then it is very likely the camera is not switched to DV-IN.

    Good luck.

  • Try ‘printing to tape’ a small section from time line. You do not need a tape in camcorder if you choose manual option. If the picture appears in your LCD screen then the camcorder is DV-IN enabled.
    Hope that helps.

Out of curiosity, why use MPEG audio instead of AC3 audio?

I guess it’s what one gets used to.
    * PAL DVD players handle MPEG layer-2 whithout any problems.
    * the MPG file holds interleaved audio and video just like an AVI file.
    * A single render operation from time line

I understand that AC3 takes less space on DVD than MPEG but I do not know enough to tell if the audio quality is better.

As always, You are absolutely right Edward.
I do not know why I thought that Vegas would not be able to start from where it left-off.
Tried it and yes, it does start back from the freeze-frame.

    Learnt something new today.

I have used the following in the past. It’s basically Rick’s method

–extend the shot the duration you want it to cover, including freeze
    –add a velocity envelope
–add a point just before the freeze
–move over 1 frame and add another point; set speed to zero
–now everything on the right is frozen

–split clip at freeze point and move the right clip to start of moving image.
–make velocity 100% on right clip
–drag the end of left clip for the duration of freeze.
