There are more than one way to achieve what you want to do. Working with colour correction is not an exact science when it come to the final out-put, no matter what software you use, it is a question of Trial-and-Error until you arrive at a result that you are happy with.

Seeing a reference shot and potentially a screen-shot of your time-line will go soo much further for anyone to pin-point how to make suggestions.

Be careful that you don’t spend too much time overthinking this. And in turn miss out on opportunities to make a great video.

I don’t know the IMO phone, but a quick search shows that at least one of the models has expansion slot for Micro-SD card. So every chance that you’ll never run out of space.

Two points that might be of interest to you:

1) What editing software are you using? Blackmagic Resolve Davinci comes with a steep learning curve, but has some great tools including the colour correction and Fusion vfx. If you’re not already using it, you should consider it. As in next point:

2) If night is a must, there are ways to shoot Day for Night. It is commonly used on productions where the crew need to move at speed to get to the next location. If you search, you can find plenty of tutorials, which might also help you deal with the brightness (“The lights”) in your existing footage.

I have included one search result here from the BorisFX blog, there is also a BorisFX forum here on the COW. Keep in mind that there are plenty of other ways to do “Day for Night production”.
If you end up having to use a plug-in, many including BorisFX let you have a free trial, followed a “rent-by-the-month” plan. In other words if you plan your editing, you might be able to do it all in one go.

I have very good experiences with Pioneer.

Got an older version of this one, which still works every time I plug it in:

And, it burns to 25GB/50GB Blu-Ray discs, should you want to back up your stuff – yes, I know, no media is guaranteed for life. Although “slow”, still a cost-effective way of doing it…

Hey Gareth,

A lot of the SLR cameras can shoot video at very low light.

But unless you are doing a remake of the Blair Witch Project, you may want to consider how the viewer will feel staring at a black screen (depending on how low-light you want it to be?).

If you search “best camera video low light” you’ll get plenty of suggestions. But coming from a £300 to a £ 3,000 camera might not be what you want to do right now.

You can hire those cameras, but you will still need an operator who can film it for you.

If starting out, do not dismiss using a friend witha high-end mobile phone to film it for you. If you have enough memory space, an iPhone or iPad will shoot 4K at ProRes.

Hey Nancy,

That sounds like a real bundle of fun.
There will be other people around who knows more, than I do, about Avid running 23.976p.

A couple of questions:
What are your hardware specs, including the external drive?
Do you know what the audio was recorded on?

Did the “someone” who input the settings, also set up the project for you?

If you investigate the files that you are using, video and audio, what do the properties tell you?
And, where is the edit going once you have finished with it?
(Are you outputting for On-Line/conform somewhere else, or do they just want a flat master-file from you?)

Based on the setting that you are working to, I would not call it “off-line”. Depending on what the original footage shows, it may be that your footage has already been transcoded?

I suggest that your investigation should centre around frame-rate(s), and if the “Avid settings at 4KDCI Full 4096X2160 1:90:1 23.976P” are the right ones for you to use?

I don’t have this specific camera, however, as the owner of Panasonic V750, this camera are practically the same as the Panasonic HC-WXF991K 4K. So the way to do this is that you go to the menu button, clicking below left side on the double arrow, there will appear a little box that say MENU, tap there, you will then jump to a sub-menu, my camera there are 3: RECORD SET UP – PICTURE and SETUP, tap RECORD SETUP, you will then go to the multiple page option, on my camera is on page 5 (5/7), there’s an option that say VIDEO LIGHT, tap it then select OFF instead of AUTO or ON. You can also do this by clicking on the arrow buttons on the beginning till you reach see the same “LIGHT” icon on the icon list on the left, just tap it to desable this option, if is in AUTO it will be surrounded by a yellow outline, so you disable this by tapping it. see less

Hey Lucas,

I would be great to have a bit of info on what version software you are using, and hardware, please?
Might be worth uninstalling bridge, and re-installing it, if that is where your problem is.
But there is an infinite amount of possibilities, where the most likely is a mismatch between different software versions.
Or, that all your Adobe packages are using the “old” folder, in which case you might want to trawl through them individually.

The Panasonic camera that you are using is OK. But not going to be much more than that.
If you are streaming video, it will be great as it comes with wifi.

But it is only HD on a small imaging chip. Even with all the digital fun stuff the camera can do, it will remain a comressed HD file out-put. As such, in can be difficult to do a grade, without the picture falling apart.

Most Mobile Phones recording to 4K (iPhone can do ProRes 4K) is likely to give you a better image.

There are several ways around this, but for starters you may want to look at 4K phone/SLR-camera/video camera.

If you plan your music video out beforehand, there is a number of ways in which you can shhot the stage performance and mix with external shots – but it is all about getting detailed in planning, whilst using the “limitations” to get creative.
