Please don’t be ashamed; we’ve all been there. If you don’t make mistakes, and loads of them, some very embarrassing, then you won’t learn.

My advice is to keep on failing, and you’ll soon be an expert in what works and what doesn’t work.

First up – drop CapCut, do not use it again. I know that this is not what you want to hear, but the app is banned on/off in several territories, + they want to assert their right to use your videos for their own usage and licence to third parties. What Google AI says:

“No, CapCut does not claim outright ownership, but by using its service, you grant it a broad, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, and sublicensable global license to use, modify, distribute, and monetize your content, including any likenesses, without notification or compensation. While you retain the copyright, CapCut can use your uploaded content for any purpose, including in advertisements or by licensing it to third parties”

For shooting and editing, you have plenty of choices out there, from free apps to one-off payments to subscriptions. Just make sure to read their T&Cs – the less they cost, the more of your blood, sweat and hard work they will take. But you will need to share what your preferred hardware is, even if mobile phone, before anyone can give you a meaningful answer.

As I can’t see the video, and there is not a lot of information in your description, I am assuming that you have shot it horizontal 16:9, and now found that all the places where you want to publish it is using the Vertical format 9:16?

Apart re-shooting, You have two choices, neither of which is pretty:

1) Place the horizontal video centre in the horizontal frame – it will be very small, but the whole frame will be there.

2) “Pan & Scan” is an old-age concept from when widescreen cinematic movies were “converted to full frame 4:3 television. In your case, you zoom in on your 16:9 video until it fills the 9:16 frame. Obviously, you’ll lose a sizeable chunk of the image, so you’ve got to decide what to keep?

Hey John,

Had to download your clip to see the artefacts – very short, so blink and you won’t notice it, but they are there as you described it.

A couple of things to try, only to see if it dissappear.

1. What happens if you export to interlaced video?
I know that it is not what you want, but does it go away?

2. Try another file format instead of PNG, like JPeg?

3. Not sure if your timeline is 4K, and you are exporting to a final master in 1920×1080 HD?
Or if it is that specific clip?
What happens if you make the source HD?
Or do the export to 4K?

4. Your Deinterlace set to none. Is that for the whole time timeline, or for the clip itself only? It might be worth deinterlacing just that clip?

Sorry for not giving you a clear answer, but as it appear on two different screen shots, it is more likely to be the process, than the individual clip. And there is a near infinite number of reasons for what can cause it. But try the above first.

What version of Premiere Pro are you using?

And, Apple ProRes LT is highly compressed as a format. Is this what you originally transcoded to? Or is this what was the original source format from the camera?
What happens if you don’t do the transcode?

Auto Balancing and Matching

Balanced and matched shots make content from different cameras look consistent. You can use the auto balance tools to quickly balance a group of similar shots. Simply click the auto color button at the left of the color wheels palette to balance the shot’s color and contrast. You can also match the color between different shots. Select a clip, right click on another clip, and select “Shot Match to This Clip” from the menu. Resolve will match the color, contrast and brightness of the clip you’re working on with the one you’ve selected. If a shot contains a chip chart, click on the color match icon in the toolbar, select the type of chart used, line it up on the image and click match!

Out of interest, on your synced clips, do the synced Video and Audio at the start, and at the end, have identical timecodes?

Hey Michael,

Thank you for sharing specs, and rolling back the PPro version.

If possible, can you sync the original APR4444 with the audio files?
Then you’ll know if it is the proxies that are giving you trouble.

Out of interest, have you used Audio as the option for sync, rahter than TC, if there was a mic running on the camera?

How many clips are you dealing with for the whole project?

Hey Michael,

Adobe Premiere Pro v25 is a version to avoid. Sorry. But the programmers were either under pressure from management to deliver early and untested, or just something that doesn’t work, or just having a good old laugh. Whatever the reason, it is not good.

If you are at the beginning of your project, what happens if you do the same process in PPro V24?

What are the video and audio files codec(s) that you are trying to sync?

With that, could be important what hardware and OS you are using?
