Hi,
Thank you for reporting the results of your testing. I will ask Andrew to respond to you as he is more familiar with Premiere problems.
In the meanwhile, can you please try using Blackmagic Deck Control to capture and playback from your deck. Does it encounter similar problems?
It would also be good if you could perform a Blackmagic DV capture in Premiere and then output it back to tape. Does it encounter similar problems?
These two tests will help to establish whether there is a general problem, or if it is just limited to Premiere Pro.

If I’ve understood you correctly, it is only this one machine which consitently has problems and the other two Macs have been fine.
One of the things that FCP does as it starts up for the first time is it checks your hardware to determine what RT effects should be available. So if that Mac had a hardware problem, it might affect the profiling test and then your RT effects would not work properly.
An interesting test would be to take out the hard disk from the identical working Mac and put it in the troublesome Mac and then see if FCP effect handling works properly. If not, I would concluded it was a hardware problem with the troublesome Mac.

Thank you for posting the answer to your problem and I’m glad you have managed to find the solution. If you are using that cable in conjunction with the HDLink, then it would be a good idea to be aware of the support note No Video Appears on my Apple Cinema HD Display (ADC) in case you encounter any problems.

If you are using genlock, please verify that the genlock format matches the format of the video you are attempting to capture. Make sure the deck is set to use external reference (or Auto if this is not available) and that the genlock cable has also been connected to the DeckLink card.
If you are not using genlock, then make sure the deck is set to use internal reference (or Auto if this is not available) and that genlock is not connected to the DeckLink card. Then open your DeckLink control panel and set “Black video output to deck in capture” setting to SDI or analog depending upon whether you connect to the deck via SDI or analog respectively.
Finally, if that still does not help, try using Blackmagic Deck Control to capture video from the deck and then try outputting it back to the deck. Does that work without problems or does Blackmagic Deck Control suffer from the same problem?

I just found an old post of yours dated Nov 13, 2004 which describes the same problem under Panther and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5. Did you ever ask Apple if they knew what might be causing it?
If you have different models of G5’s, does the same problem affect other G5’s or only the one?

Hi Tangier,
It sounds as though your old setup was DeckLink 5.1.1 drivers. What version of Final Cut Pro HD 5.0 were you previously using? It is now up to version 5.0.3 and the difference might be important.
