    Hi,

The Multibridge Pro is essentially an external version of the DeckLink HD Extreme but with easier access to the connections and HDMI monioring output. You could use an LCD TV monitor with the Multibridge Pro to monitor SD or HD material. Yes, 601 video can be viewed via the HDMI output 🙂

If you plan to use an LCD computer display for monitoring (such as an Apple 23″ or Dell 24″ LCD), then you would need to use either a DeckLink card with HDLink or else Multibridge Extreme. This is because computer monitors do not typically display at TV frame rates and so hardware pulldown processing is required to display video on these monitors. Both HDLink and Multibridge Extreme have those capabilities.

September 26, 2006 at 5:04 am in reply to: DeckLink HD Extreme component capture a bit fuzzy

    Hi Dan,

Does the same fuzziness occur if you capture at 1080i59.94 using the DeckLink HD Extreme?

Every bit of analog equipment you enter in to a workflow will add some analog noise to the picture and that is simply the nature of analog video. In other words, I would expect that connecting the Xbox directly to the HDTV monitor would result in a sharper image compared with analog output from the Xbox to the analog input of the DeckLink card and then analog out from the DeckLink card to the analog input of the HDTV monitor.

Having said that, I would still expect it to look very good and I don’t know if you are seeing minimal fuzziness or something more drastic. I’m not sure how much detail is output from the Xbox but would you please try a 10-bit capture from the Xbox and then play out the 10-bit material to your HDTV monitor and see if the quality is better and less fuzzy?

    September 26, 2006 at 4:44 am in reply to: BMD Extreme – ppro2 23.98psf SD – 2:3 pulldown problem

    Hi Bernardo,

I do not believe you are going to be able to play out your 24p standard definition material via the DeckLink Extreme PCIe card as our drivers support 23.98p rather than 24p in standard definition. I think that is the problem you are seeing now when you attempt to play out your 24p material.

The DeckLink SD series of cards support 625/25 PAL, 525/29.97 NTSC and 525/23.98 NTSC as noted on the DeckLink SD Specs page. They do not support 24p in standard definition. The DeckLink HD series of cards do support 1080p24 in high definition but do not support 24p in standard definition.

    Hi,

Manufacturers of some monitors may provide a LUT on their web site or on a CD which shipped with the monitor. These can be used with Multbridge Extreme as long as they conform to the standard LUT format used by HDLink and Multibridge Extreme. The format is any tab-delimited text file; red, green and blue per record; first line (title line) skipped; Lookup tables need to be 1024 records long plus the first line reserved for title line.

  • Hi Mel,

I have heard of one other weird report of a green screen when simply playing out of FCP and not even printing to tape. In that instance, the solution was to delete the FCP preferences and then the problem went away.

You could test this by creating a new Admin account on your Mac and trying to print to tape from the same project you are using now. If this overcomes the problem, then it would suggest that the preferences are the source of your problem.

If this does not help, please try another project and see if it exhibits the same problem or not.

September 26, 2006 at 4:07 am in reply to: Intensity question

    Hi Oscar,

That’s an interesting question and I don’t think we have plans for that. We’ll consider anything if there is enough demand but yours is the first question I have heard regarding a PCI version of Intensity. At the very least, I would expect that PCI-X would be required to cope with the uncompressed HD signal and I don’t think PCI (33 or 66 MHz) would ever be an option for the card.

PCI Express is lower cost compared with PCI-X and so that is one of the reasons we have been able to make Intensity at an attractive price and is also the reason why all the newer Macs and PC’s have PCI Express slots.

September 26, 2006 at 4:02 am in reply to: Multibridge Pro HDMI and SD

    Hi Francis,

Multibridge Pro definitely supports SD output via HDMI. Do you have some other source of standard definition HDMI output you could test with your plasma screen, eg the HDMI output of a DVD player? This will help to establish whether the plasma TV is accepting any SD HDMI signal at all or whether we need to investigate your Multibridge Pro unit further.

Can you please try both NTSC and PAL video output from your Axio system and see if that makes a difference as to whether the plasma screen can display the video via Multibridge Pro?

Finally, does your plasma screen accept any of the analog outputs of Multibridge Pro when working in SD?

These tests will help to narrow down the problem.

September 26, 2006 at 3:45 am in reply to: OT: shopping for a digibeta VTR

    Hi Tim,

[Tim Irwin] “The rental house later told us that some “older” Digibeta decks didn’t include audio over sdi”

I cannot think of any Digibeta which would fail to support embedded audio via SDI. That was one of the great things about Digibeta. My suspicion is that the deck you hired was either defective or else that the menu settings were configured to route audio via AES outputs rather than SDI. Any Digibeta should work fine with any DeckLink SDI card. Any HDCAM should work fine with any DeckLink HD-SDI card.

  • Hi Jim,

I’m not sure what is causing the problem. Are all three pieces of hardware genlocked, ie the DeckLink card, the Quantel Paintbox system and the Sony BVM-20G1E monitor? That would probably help.

The DeckLink Pro outputs YUV video so I’m not sure how that might affect the Paintbox system if it is affecting RGB but it does seem like a potential source of problems.

September 26, 2006 at 2:31 am in reply to: DeckLink Pro with AE 5.5?

    Hi,

Is this happening on Mac or Windows? After Effects 5.5 has been superceded by 3 major versions and so we don’t usually test with it anymore and I’m not sure whether it still works OK. I would certainly recommend that you do use the current version of After Effects and other video software.

If you reinstalled After Effects 5.5 after installing After Effects 7.0, then I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the DeckLink drivers.

DeckLink drivers do not install a plugin in to After Effects itself but take advantage of its QuickTime compatibility to provide video output.
