  • DeckLink Pro with AE 5.5?

I’ve been using DeckLink Pro with AE 7.0 for the last few weeks – no problems.

However it was only the 30 day trial version which has now run out. While I wait for the full retail AE7 I am trying to use the decklink with AE 5.5. I re-installed the BMD drivers again, AFTER uninstalling AE7. But it doesn’t seem to have installed anything in my AE 5.5 program folder? I DO have the BMD option in video preview preferences, but when I try to preview it says:

” unable to creat QT image buffer — bad parameter (-50) ”

Should there be a visible driver or plugin icon somewhere in my AE folder? I can’t see it.

Is DeckLink compatible with 5.5? I was sure I’d read somewhere it was..

Oh, I’m using the latest version of Quicktime.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Is this happening on Mac or Windows? After Effects 5.5 has been superceded by 3 major versions and so we don’t usually test with it anymore and I’m not sure whether it still works OK. I would certainly recommend that you do use the current version of After Effects and other video software.

If you reinstalled After Effects 5.5 after installing After Effects 7.0, then I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the DeckLink drivers.

DeckLink drivers do not install a plugin in to After Effects itself but take advantage of its QuickTime compatibility to provide video output.

    Hi Luke,

Sorry – on a PC (XP Pro SP2) I think I should maybe make up a specs signature for the future..

The only reason I’m using 5.5 again is cos I’m waiting for the go ahead to buy 7.0. I need AFX in the meantime though.

I never uninstalled 5.5 – it was still installed while the 7.0 trial was running. I just uninstalled the trial and then uninstalled/installed the BMD drivers again, hoping they would reinstall any components needed into 5.5’s folder instead.

After what you’ve just said I have a feeling it might be a quicktime compatibility problem with AE 5.5…I seem to remember having an audio playback problem with 5.5 and one of the versions of QT. I’ll check it out…

    Ta.

    Hi Luke/All,

Well I’vew not had much luck getting any info about QT/AE/BMD compatibility…Tell me, can you remember if DeckLink EVER worked with AE 5.5?

I’ve tried installing QT 7.0 and 6.5 instead, but it still doesn’t seem to work. QT 7.0 upwards does work with Combustion 3 however, but not AE 5.5.

I won’t waste my time going through as many versions of QT as I can find if I know 5.5 just won’t work with the DeckLink.

Anyone else had success with any of those configs?
