Hi,

The Blackmagic 720p25 Varicam easy setup that we install in to Final Cut Pro is for use with Varicam video. Apple have just added support for native 720p25 HDV video in Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 and we do not support 720p25 native playback via HD-SDI. However I have asked the engineers to add support for this format and I can’t promise anything but am hopefull it will be added.

Yes, the combination of the DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 (PCI-X) card and the Multibridge Pro will enable you to do everything that you have described.

Hi Mark,

Another thing to try is to check the device control in Final Cut Pro and ensure it is set to Sony RS-422. If that still doesn’t help, please quite from Final Cut Pro and launch Blackmagic Deck Control. Can it capture and play back from the DigiBeta A500? This will help determine if the problem is general or perhaps a specific Final Cut Pro preference.

Hi Robin,

You mentioned that you only see black on your Cinema display when running Final Cut Pro, subsequent to the crash and restart. When you start up your G5 or Mac Pro, does the Mac OS X desktop appear on your Cinema display? If so, then Multibridge is working and I suspect the preferences in Final Cut Pro have become corrupt and need to be deleted to overcome the problem.

If the Mac OS X desktop does not appear at startup, would you please open the DeckLink PrefPane (in System Preferences) and tell me what it says next to the text “Preference settings for your….” If it shows “DeckLink” rather than “Multibridge Extreme”, then the Mac is not seeing the Multibridge Extreme. Please shut down the Mac and ensure that the thumb-lock screws for the PCI Express cable are tight at both ends where they connect with the Mac and the Multibridge. Ensure the Multibridge Extreme is powered on and then start up the Mac. Does the DeckLink PrefPane now report the presence of the Multibridge Extreme?

I have searched the web but cannot find any notes as to whether the DSBK-1601 board will or won’t allow you to embed audio in the SDI video output. If you can find a way to make that work, then the DeckLink card should be all you need to capture from your deck. The DeckLink card is a PCI card which can run at 33 or 66 MHz.

If you cannot find a way to embed the audio, then you will need either the DeckLink HD Extreme (PCI Express) or DeckLink HD Pro (PCI-X) card. Both of these cards include SDI in & out as well as AES audio in & out and both cards support SD-SDI as well as HD-SDI.

I don’t know with which Mac or PC you want to use the DeckLink card so please note that the three cards mentioned above are for different kinds of slots, ie PCI, PCI Express and PCI-X.

Hi Greg,

Would you please use the System Preferences to set the Sound Output to DeckLink Audio. Now launch iTunes and play some music. Does the sound appear to be distorted when monitored via the DeckLink SP? If so, given the other testing you have performed, the card will need to be RMA’d. In theory the card has a one year warranty but we’re happy to replace it if it turns out to be a fault with the card, but not if an elephant stepped or you microwaved it with some pizza.

Hi Ron,

No, that’s the way Final Cut Pro is designed to work and OfflineRT can not be monitored on an external monitor. However hard disks are big and cheap these days and so very few people still use OfflineRT. You may wish to consider using a full resolution, compressed timeline as it won’t take up much hard disk space and will allow you to monitor your video.
