The new Multibridge Studio and Extreme models, which are due to ship some time this northern summer, are the ones that will include DVI-D monitoring which you could use with an LCD monitor. The current shipping DeckLink Multibridge model does not include DVI-D monitoring and that’s why we have the seperate HDLink product which has been shipping for around 1.5 years.
The point of this is that you’re not going to see the quality of the down conversion on the new models until they are released. However I can say that the down conversion in any of our products does do colorspace conversion and you can check this out for yourself in the DeckLink Extreme. Just plug the DeckLink Extreme in to a dual-processor G5 with PCI-X and you can then play out HD material and it will be automatically be downconverted to SD using software down conversion. This will give you some idea of what we can do and I think we will be using hardware down conversion on the Multibridges which will provide quality that is at least as good as the software down conversion.

The short answer is “no.” Premiere Pro 1.5.1 will happily capture DV25 and HDV via Firewire but not DVCPRO. The DV25 or HDV captures are then transcoded to an uncompressed format which DeckLink can use. DeckLink can then play out the uncompressed video to a deck and/or monitor via SDI or analog outputs, depending upon which model of DeckLink card you have.
In regards to mixed formats on the one timeline, they need to be uncompressed to work with DeckLink cards. We have a tech note about compressed formats with DeckLink cards at:

If none of your settings changed on the computer, then maybe something changed on the deck when you were changing tapes? This doesn’t entirely make sense as I would expect any such change to also affect 8 and 10 bit captures but it would be worth checking the settings on your deck.
Can you also test saving to a Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 – JPEG timeline and see if that compressed format also suffers from dropped frames? The DVCPRO HD codec is less demanding on your disk storage but places greater demands on your Mac’s system due to the compression or decompression cycles involved with any compressed codec. However if it worked in the past, it should work fine now. The JPEG test will provide a useful comparison. If it also fails, please try a JPEG capture by quitting from FCP and use Blackmagic Deck Control for your capture. This will provide a useful comparison test.
If you have any interactive antivirus software, make sure you disable it’s automatic checking of downloaded files as this will cause dropped frames.

Hi Oyvind,
I haven’t seen this behavior. Can you try a similar procedure after quitting from FCP and then launch Blackmagic Deck Control. Open a 1080@59.94 in to Deck Control and then play bits of it. You can then scrub through to another part of the clip and try playing again. This is not exactly the same as your test in FCP as it you won’t be using multiple clips or RT effects but it will tell us if the problem is confined to FCP or affects the playing of movies in other QuickTime applications.

The DeckLink v5.0 drivers should be used with Final Cut Pro HD v5.0. Mac OS X 10.3.9 is not officially supported with the DeckLink 5.0 drivers and we advise using one of the two recommended configurations in the technical note at https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=68. Unofficially, DeckLink 5.0 drivers may work with Mac OS X 10.3.9 but we discourage the use of this operating system. Some of the new DeckLink features, including Blackmagic FrameLink, are exclusively available to Tiger and this is another good reason to upgrade to Tiger.

Hi,
Try using a DV or JPEG easy setup and see if the problem goes away. If the problem goes away, then it is a disk-related problem even though the speed tests show that your disk array is very fast.
Which cards to you have in which PCI-X slots? For example, is the DeckLink Extreme is slot 2 and the ATTO UL4D in slot 4?
Can you provide more detail about what you do when you are performing “delicate editing”?

Please post some information about your setup including Mac or Windows, version numbers for your operating system, NLE software and DeckLink drivers. Are you working in SD or HD? What deck are you using and do you connect via SDI or analog? Do you use genlock? All these details will help to narrow down your problem.

Please check that this isn’t caused by your energy saver settings as I remember a similar problem from some while ago. It will be interesting to see if your energy saver settings are set to 45 minutes.
