A am experiencing a problem where Final Cut 5 stops responding and gives me the spinning beach ball. What I do to make this happens is the following.

First of all, I am using 1080@59.94 video clips. I put a few minutes of clips in the timeline and I make sure that the “External Video” is set to “All frames” so I can view the video on the monitor.
I then put play on the timeline and move the “playback head” several times to a random place in the timeline (while playing). After moving the “playback head” a few times (sometimes just 1 or 2 times and other times 10-15 times) FCP stops responding and gives me the spinning beach ball.
This does not happen if the “External Video” is set to off.

    My setup is:
Power Mac dual 2.5 with 2.5 GB Ram
    OS 10.4.1
    FCP 5
    Decklink driver version 5b2
Decklink HD and Decklink HD Pro

I’ve tried changing the reinstalling the OS and FCP5, changing ram, changing computer and also using both Decklink HD and Decklink HD Pro, but all with the same result.

    Anybody seen anything like this?

    Thanks

    Hi Oyvind,

I haven’t seen this behavior. Can you try a similar procedure after quitting from FCP and then launch Blackmagic Deck Control. Open a 1080@59.94 in to Deck Control and then play bits of it. You can then scrub through to another part of the clip and try playing again. This is not exactly the same as your test in FCP as it you won’t be using multiple clips or RT effects but it will tell us if the problem is confined to FCP or affects the playing of movies in other QuickTime applications.
