May 23, 2019 at 10:12 am in reply to: Masks meeting edge line?

    Hello,

I just had the same problem. I solved it by setting the mode of the, mask from “add” to “none”.

  • Steve, once again thank you for you response. The reason I want the lines to be thicker is simple because I find thicker lines more comfortable to look at and easier to view when I work with the software for long hours.

If there is no way to adjust the line thickness though other then adjusting the resolution of my screen I guess I just have to put up with it as it is.

I was just hoping that there would be a built in setting in Cinema to control the thickness of the lines much like we can adjust the size of the polygons points and point handle size via the “options” –> “configure all” –> “view” setting.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Lucas

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for your response. Whilst the object in the tutorial is certainly is in a Subdivision Surface the Surface is certainly not causing the mesh to collapse on the edge when applying the controlled cuts and trying to dissolve the middle line in “Edge” mode to create the diamond shaped quad.

Take a look at the picture below to see that the geometry, and mesh remains intact and supported by the borrowed edges when the unwanted edge dissolved in point mode.

    Before dissolving the point:

    After dissolving the corner point:

What I wish to understand is why I do not get the same result when dissolving the middle edge in “edge” mode just like the tutor does it in the modelling tutorial. (See images above.)

I am still hoping that someone will be able to provide an answer here.

    Kind regards,

    Lucas

  • Steve, thank you for your response. I have found the relevant setting to change the colour of the line however that’s not what I am looking for. I would like to change the “thickness” of the line.

Take a look at the picture below.

It is a snapshot from the tutorial I am using to learn hard surface modelling. The lines appear to be much more thicker and prominent than the default setting in my version of Cinema.

There must be a setting somewhere within C4D to control the line thickness.

  • Also don’t forget to turn off the “use edge breaks” check box if you are using a subdivision surface.

    See picture below:

  • Thank you for providing the perfect answer and the great example files. It really helped me to understand what I need to do to achieve my goal.

Should someone stumble across my question here at a later time I also found this tutorial relevant and interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmUi22qZdkA

    Kind regards,

    Lucas

    Hello Sir,

Thank you for your response. I have spent a long time looking for a solution to create automatic depth maps. The suggested “Topaz lab solution” will work really well. I also have had it installed as a photoshop plugin already.

I just watched the suggested tutorial also which was helpful to explain how to use the plugin.

Once more thank you for the excellent tip!

    Best regards,

    Lucas

  • Thank you Robert,

I actually copied and saved this super useful hint.

    Regards,

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for commenting. That is EXACTLY, what I am looking for. To create the shadows in the future I will be using C4D lights, rather the trying to create it during the compositing stage in AE. The window of the car definitely IS too dark. I will focus on experimenting more with surfaces and materials to achieve more realistic results.

    Please keep the comments coming.

    Best regards,

    Lucas

  • Monica to make something editable in C4D you have to click the button highlighted on the image.
