  • Depends on your type of work. When it comes to multicam and organizing media, it blows the competition away.

Some people love the trackless magnetic timeline, some people hate it.

If you do heavy effects and animation, there’s probably a lot more reasons to go to adobe.

There are some stability concerns in certain applications.

I love it, and use it primarily for multicam and documentary work. I would never go back to FCP7 or even consider Premiere. If you’re still using FCP7 I’m guessing performance isn’t your number one issue. It really depends on what you use your NLE for mostly.

It could be because of the format of your original media, transcoding to proxy or optimized should help with that.

It could be because of corrupt preferences, I would recommend using Digital Rebellion’s preference manager to trash your preferences and see if that helps.

Or it could be your hard drive, if it’s failing or USB 2.0 that would cause a lot of slow-downs.

Didn’t realize how much I screwed up this post:

Search clip appearance in the keyboard command editor.

Set Clip Labels Only (I used command-option-w) (ram saving)

Waveforms and Filmstrips (I used command-option-f) (back to normal

I’d definitely take the new ones. We have a small shop, 16 seats, and I manage the hardware. I’m sick of the towers around and we don’t use any fancy pci cards. My only concern is how to hook it up to our xsan and keep it neat but the thunderbolt to fibre adapters we have seem like they won’t be too messy.

ssd for system, you’ll likely get most of your speed bump when your system is on the ssd. also renders and video eat hard drive space, 256gb won’t feel like much at all for hour long vids.

I agree. Since I use smart collections extensively, I don’t see the advantage of having several events in one project as opposed to just using keyword collections. The best thing I’ve figured out is to make 2 events, one called media, and one called sequences. I love the libraries in principle, but it’s still not quite there.

I’m guessing you now have FCPX 10.1 and before you had 10.0.9. If so, you’ll have to use the Update Projects and Events menu function under the File menu.

Try throwing away or at least moving your render files and transcoded media out and see if it comes back.
