Do have it set to “start up automatically after a power failure” in System Preferences / Energy Saver?

Perhaps shutting off the external drive trips that.

never mind, forgot the -settingpath flag:

    /Applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/Compressor -jobpath ./test.mp4 -settingpath /Users/xxxxx/Library/Application\ Support/Compressor/Settings/Apple\ ProRes\ 422\ test.cmprstng -locationpath ./testoutput.mp4

Did you see the noise reduction in the release notes? Did they take it out?

I doubt it’s the SD card. Can you screenshot the glitch? Might be GPU related.

That Affinity app looks really cool. Would love to replace all Adobe apps and ready to just ship in an instant.

Projects can, but I’ve yet to go a month without needing Photoshop or illustrator.

In my experience of freelancing in the San Francisco Bay Area, production houses, or anyone with a dedicated video team is still firmly locked into Adobe. Every now and then I’ll get an FCPX only job, but it’s rare. Most work I get doesn’t care what I use since I am the video team. I know it’s been said plenty, but it’s not really FCPX vs Premiere, it’s FCPX vs the Creative Cloud. Until there’s truly a workflow that doesn’t involve painfully waiting for an Adobe app to launch, Premiere is going to dominate. It just seems easier, even if it takes more time.

I think the fact that 2 out of your 3 drives is almost definitely causing your problem, and that sounds pretty serious. Would definitely tackle that first and start fresh.

3A. Loren both you and Robert have encouraged me to make sure I’m editing in the same resolution and frame rate as I shot in.

Its not a hard rule to match the resolution and the frame rate.

But here are a couple things to look out for.

Scaling can add artifacts such as moire and softening.

Say you have some 4k footage, and the rest of your footage is 1080p. If you put it in a 1080 project, the 4k will need to be cropped, or scaled down. If you have a 4k project, all of the 1080 footage will need to be scaled up.

As for frame rate, you can make it anything you want and mix framerates. However, it you play the frames in such a way that the computer has to create or drop frames, it will add some visual artifacting.

For instance if you have a 30fps project and you had a 60fps clip, if you play the 60 frames at your project rate you’ll get slow motion (50% speed). If you chose something slower, like 15% speed, the computer would have to make up frames or repeat frames, and you’ll see a strong drop in quality.

    If you put it
