And they “fixed” the Color Wheels it seems.

    Color Correction

Color wheel sliders retain values at 100 IRE for white and 0 IRE for black, with the ability to move above and below using color correction controls

[Craig Seeman] “And they “fixed” the Color Wheels it seems.”

Yes, this does seem to be fixed now.

But a quick look at the Midtones color wheel suggests there is a “kink” in the gamma curve that oversaturates the shadows …

Very noticeable when you compare it to the Color Board.

    So not completely fixed.

[Simon Ubsdell] “Yes, this does seem to be fixed now.”

Question is… does this affect (i.e. change) previous grades done with the wheels? One should assume YES, no?

BTW, for the late adopters, this release requires High Sierra.

Did you see the noise reduction in the release notes? Did they take it out?

[Robin S. Kurz] “does this affect (i.e. change) previous grades done with the wheels?”

The good news is that when you update your Library to 10.4.1 the existing grades are kept intact.

This is presumably because 10.4.1 is running the “old version” of the color wheels in the background to make sure that none of your grades will be messed up when you update.

Edit: I have found however that exporting an XML from 10.4 to 10.4.1 does not transfer the color wheel information.

There is no noise reduction in this release.

The release notes talked about the noise reduction, I copied that text from the release notes. I didn’t find the effect back in the effects panel and apparently it’s taken out of the release notes too. Maybe just a matter of timing, with all the Prores RAW, that they add such an effect.

Noise reduction was on a feature list earlier today but was removed a little while ago:
